I have lived in MN almost all my life.... It is not as cold as people think.. besides it is a dry cold.... We do NOT live in igloos either....

Will agree with that as long as you are far away from Lake Superior, recall a flight from Orlando to Minneapolis in January, felt warmer in Minneapolis at 0*F than in Orlando at 32*F.

Forgot one thing about the Twin Cities, 50 years behind every other city in the construction of the interstate system, lots of environmental nuts living there. Wife and I crossed that I-35E bridge two months before it fell down, is that luck or not?

The I-35E bridge? It was good luck, considering it was the I-35W bridge that collapsed...

Did I type E? Sorry, meant W going up to St. Paul, LOL, has to be a computer error, I don't make mistakes.

We were in Bloomington September 3rd for my wife's oath ceremony, least they have a parking lot. Was wondering if John or George would show up, but gather George wasn't invited and John was worrying about Houston.

MN has over 70 State parks and over 11000 lakes.

Education system isn't bad. MN has about 30 public college/universities.

The people are pretty friendly. Its a good state to live in, but the taxes suck.

You have to like ice hockey in MN or you get kicked out.

Where abouts in Minnesota? The metro area (aka Saint Paul, Minneapolis, suburbs et al) is quite different from the rest of the state. I like in Saint Paul, work in Minneapolis, and don't have much experience with MN outside of the cities.

*I don't mind the weather, but then again I'm from Wisconsin, which is basically the same. My husband comes from a very warm country, and does fine with the winters here. That's why God gave us long underwear, warm jackets, scarves, mittens, hats, etc.

*There's this thing known as "Minnesota Nice," ie everyone is nice to everyone. It's all a facade. It's Minnesota nice to your face, but I'll stab you in the back the second you turn around. As one of my husband's friends says, "At least in New York, they'll tell you what they really think."

*People in the cities are very used to immigrants. We have the largest somali and hmong populations in the country (last time I checked).

*You can get almost anywhere in the Metro area by bus...but it may take you 3 hours.

*We have the Guthrie Theater, which is awesomeness, as well as lots of local theater companies.

*We have a great public radio station.

You are really pushing me, payxibka, to the point where I set down my bottle of scotch, took a cold shower and drank several cups of black coffee. LOL.

Bridge did collapse on I-35W Aug 1, 2007, it was on June 6, 2007 my wife and I picked up my mother-in-law at the Minneapolis St.Paul International Airport on a flight from Bogota, wife wanted to see downtown Minneapolis, so instead of taking I-494 east back to WI, took it west to I-35W and headed north to Minneapolis, that is when we crossed that bridge, was uneventful. Recall driving past the Twins Baseball Stadium and the couple of sky scratchers in downtown, not quite like Chicago, got bored, hit I-94 and headed east.

We are at the same latitude as the Twin Cities, wife is from Venezuela where in never gets colder than 60*F or warmer than 80*F, she doesn't like neither hot or cold weather, but feel she hates hot weather more. She has adapted well to our climate, loves our beautiful fall colors, and the snow with all the homes and stores decorated for the Christmas or is that the Holiday season.

January, February, and March are the worse months, probably not only for her, but for the rest of us, tax time and cabin fever. We do live very close to Rib Mountain for skiing and have plenty of skating rinks around here. While I did own snowmobiles, got out of that, but she is interested, that Sparta-Elroy trail is beautiful. Ha, if we don't want snow, all I have to do is to buy another snowmobile, but takes up space in the garage the other nine months of the year.

While the first snow is always exciting, sure get sick of blowing it near the end of winter, and I am suppose to hang our Christmas lights before sub-zero sets in. We are planning on a trip for mid February to help break up the winter, that is, if I can find my way back to the Minneapolis St.Paul International Airport.

I have such fond memories of Minnesota, I was born and raised in Duluth (beautiful city). I remember alot of Halloween's it was snowing outside, I loved it as a child :)

I moved from MN when I graduated from HS and then moved back there for 1 year (10 yrs later). The winter was brutal....had to plug the car battery in at night, wake up early in the morning and prepare to chissel layers of ice off the car door so I could open it...then I would warm the car up for 15 mins and try and melt the thick layers of ice off the windows so I could see while I was driving. Then I would proceed to drive down a steep hill with traffic lights and pray that I would not have to stop because roads were icy @ 5am.....and then when I arrived to work in one piece (praise the Lord), I would look outside and see the hill that I would have to drive up again......it was a living nightmare :)

I remember going out to lunch with some co-workers and I told them "I do not know where I will be next year, but I can tell you it won't be here"...they looked at me like I was crazy. I asked them "how can you live here and deal with the winters?" I moved to Florida the following year and now I can't take the summers :)

To Blessed to be stressed:) I realize that all things have a purpose and a time.....have faith and the Lord Almighty will provide... when the time is right, he NEVER fails!

I live in Minneapolis...

It IS cold here in the winter time, but luckily our houses are very warm, so you won't freeze  . Please invest in a good warm coat, a hat, gloves and long underwear if you plan to go outside in the winter. I've seen Hmong women from Thailand wearing flip flops in the January  --it's amazing they didn't get frost-bite!

The weather here is wonderful in spring, summer and fall!

My husband is from a very hot climate and froze the first winter--he is more used to it now. He likes the season changes (especially autumn), but winters get long and every February he wants to move to Texas or California!

Like someone mentioned, February would be a good time to plan a vacation so that you can emotionally make it through the winter!
