Yup, it's verrrrrrrrrrry cold in the winter time. And oh yeah, the snow doesn't help either. They have very good cheese though. :pop:

I've been to Minnesota many times and have found the people to be some of the friendliest I have ever met. The same goes for Wisconsin. The weather in the winter is horrible though. What part of the State are you interested in?

Well, I am close, St. Paul is our local field office. Can tell you the State bird is the mosquitoe, love the Duluth area in the summer time, but unbelievably cold in the winter. Twin cities try to be sophisticated, strictly suit and tie. Jesse was a darn good governor, but quit. Kid brother graduated from the Minnesota medical school, very good school, but like any university, one big fat no parking sign. Don't tell anyone in MN you are a Packer fan, instant death. Except for Alaska, MN is the further norther state in the lower 48 and many places to cross into Canada on the back roads. But not sure why, only trees up there. As is most of the northern part of the state, thousand of lakes and very good fishing, southern part is mostly diary farms. Can walk across the Mississippi River in Itasca State Park, and if sick, can go to the famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Many people confuse the Mississippi River with the St. Croix River, but they do join around the La Cross area. See a lot of old fashion flat bottom paddle wheel boats, cool.

The drive from Duluth to Thunder Bay is beautiful, nice beaches along Lake Superior, but your whole body will turn blue if you stick just one toe in Lake Superior. MN was known for it's iron range, but that is kind of dying today. People are friendly, as long as you are friendly, but that is about true anyplace you go.

How's this for a description? MN is not hit like tourists from Milwaukee and Chicago like WI is, so Wisconsinites go to MN to get away from it all. Property taxes are high especially near the twin cities. Mall of America is less than a mile away from the St. Paul field office, use to be the world's largest mall, but they are expanding it to get that title back. They have shoe stores there.

Haha, that's funny. My mom always felt they weren't as friendly as home when she lived there... Just by a warm coat and a shovel and you'll do fine :) MN is an awesome place.

Edit, my mom found that a coat with fur lining around the face saved her in winter. She wasn't as used to the cold as some people :)

Well, you have to consider where the OP is from. For people who are used to snow and winters, it may be ok. I'm ok with it but I live in Colorado. Now, for someone from Jamaica, Latin America or the Phillippines, it's going to feel like the North Pole.

Will agree with that as long as you are far away from Lake Superior, recall a flight from Orlando to Minneapolis in January, felt warmer in Minneapolis at 0*F than in Orlando at 32*F.

Forgot one thing about the Twin Cities, 50 years behind every other city in the construction of the interstate system, lots of environmental nuts living there. Wife and I crossed that I-35E bridge two months before it fell down, is that luck or not?

I'm assuming the O/P is from the Philippines, so they may disagree about the cold!

My "Minnesota Story" comes from 1991. I was in College in Tacoma, Washington. Christmas break was coming up and my good friend Paul asked me if I wanted to go to Chandler, Minnesota with him for his Sisters Wedding. He offered to pay for everything because he wanted to drive. Back then my mind worked like this:

Wedding = Drinking and Dancing

So off we went. We arrived just in time for the rehearsals. When we walked in you could have heard a pin drop, because of the way me and Paul looked (long hair and beards). They were very religious people and the County was actually a "dry" County, so drinking was out. On top of that dancing was illegal!

A few years later, in an effort to show impartiality, God came along with a tornado and ripped the roof off of the house we stayed in. Thankfully no one was injured.

The I-35E bridge? It was good luck, considering it was the I-35W bridge that collapsed...
