evidence of ongoing relationship

Ok, I think I've got enough evidence of having met in person. I've got copies of four airline boarding passes to Beijing, copies of visas and four entry stamps in my passport, and photos of us together. The issue comes to what's acceptable as evidence of an ongoing relationship. Listed in the guide are things such as phone bills, physical letters and stamps, and emails. Leilei and I, being modern Internet-dwellers, have used the Internet exclusively for contact (email, text chats, voice chats, and webcams). I've never called her from a regular phone, because Internet voice chatting is free, and usually has a better quality connection. I've never sent or received snail mail from her (other than a Christmas card), because snail mail is expensive and takes two weeks, whereas email is free and nearly instantaneous.

So my question boils down to: Has anyone had a problem using only emails and chat logs as evidence of an ongoing relationship? I would think that the evidence of me visiting her four times should help some. I had some emails saved to a document file, but I read that it would be better to print them directly or print a screen shot, to quiet any suspicion that I made them up. How many emails are enough? Six pages worth? What about chat logs? I could print out a novel.

If this is for the initial application they are not interested in evidence of an ongoing relationship, just evidence you have met in the last two years. Stuff like, flight details, boarding passes, passport stamps, atm withdrawals in the country, photos etc. Stuff that prooves you have been together.

Proof of ongoing relationship is not needed until the interview, Save all the emails, chat logs until then.

Wow, thanks. This saves some effort for the time being. I didn't even think about ATM receipts. I'll include some of those as well.

for emails, if you were together for 1 year or 2 or more, jusr print 1 per month same with chat logs, if for less that a year, print twice per month.

Having been personally burned, I would not be this blase. With due respect to Laura+Tom, Guangzhou is not London. At any higher-fraud consulate, one runs the risk of bringing evidence to the interview that the consul may refuse to look at, and then accuse you of not having brought any. Including a representative amount (not overwhelming) in the USCIS package -- whether required by USCIS or not -- takes away this argument. I might also include a one- or two-paragraph statement about your method of communication (all Internet), because I'm not convinced that all consulates are fully "up" on the latest technologies that folks use to communicate.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks. I guess I will be including some emails and chat logs, to be safe. I hope they don't make her go all the way to Guangzhou for the interview. There is a US consulate in Shenyang, where she lives. I know a girl who told me she had to go to Guangzhou from Xi'an for the interview, and I was confused why she had to go so far. Does anyone know about this? Do they make everyone in China go to the Guangzhou consulate for the interview?

Guangzhou is the consulate... Shenyang does not have a immigrant visa unit which is the unit which is the unit that issues "K" visas

Hello Kevin, yes Guangzhou will be the consulate, my girlfriend lives in northeast China, and she will have to make the flight there.

K-1 is through Guangzhou

if I were you, I'd spend the extra cents, like yahoo! call out, 1.5 cents a minute or skype at 2.1 cents a minute plus connection fee and call her periodically. You then have a fool proof call long. It will show what numbers you called date and time and length of call.- like her mobile number

the most you'll spend is a few $ per month. It may save you considerable grief when you get to the interview.

Like insurance, you buy it even though you don't need it. and for a few $ per month, for the next 9 months, it's priceless.

If you get dinged, and china is probably the most difficult embassy to go through, you will regret not doing it.

good luck, overkill is better than saving a few pennies

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've already printed out a few screen captures from her webcam. Good thing my client saves webcam sessions. I think I might go ahead with the Skype calling to her mobile phone. Sounds like good insurance. I won't be able to include it in my initial petition package, but I'll have it for her interview, when it really counts.

I already put Shenyang on the I-129F as the consulate where my fiancee would apply for her visa. Should I change it to Guangzhou before I send it? I wouldn't want to get an RFE just for something stupid like that.

I guess, you should put the consulate where K-Visas are process as well as the applicable one for her. For evidences, don't forget receipt of your engagement ring.

USCIS will not care what consulate name you put there as they do not have anything to do with that... When it gets to NVC they will assign the consulate. They will note that Shenyang is not valid and change it to the one that has jurisdiction

FWIW, engagement ring receipt does not prove face-to-face meeting...

YMMV
