Google had the chance to bid for the 700Mhz spectrum and offer as much bandwidth and data as they liked, but they obviously didn't.

Installing and running IP networks costs billions and is NOT subsidized by the tax payer. I don't think it is fair that the telcos fork out the cash to upgrade their networks while the content providers earn billions off it. The Telcos should have the right to charge a resonable fee to any content provider who is using a large percentage of their network to distribute their content.

Indeed that part isn't much subsidized, but their entire infrastructure is, which is why it's funny to me how they still push for franchising agreements and give the middle finger to CLECs (of the DSL incumbents). Wonder how well they'd be doing without taxpayer help. The least that can be done is not using taxpayer money to tell people to #### themselves on how to use their bandwidth they pay for. I didn't buy a car for people to tell me where to drive. I don't pay a monthly fee for internet to tell me how to use my bandwidth, either.

Of course, this could all be avoided with municipal broadband, i.e. semi-to-entirely-localized broadband carriers, much like many of the deals here in the Bay Area. Hell, Google also provides free wi-fi to residents of Mountain View.

If their IP networks were really that costly to run, that doesn't explain why their prices continued to go down for unlimited bandwidth, on top of the profit-maximizing move of outsourcing several departments. There's a huge difference between millions of people paying $19.99 a month and $55 a month. Some questions about this need to be answered.

At any rate, we don't deserve a corporate vision half-assed network with corporations telling people where to visit. I already get few choices with cable/satellite TV for relevant things like news, which is why I choose not to even watch it or waste a dime on it. The internet is and has always been better off for being open and free for people to use it how they see fit. If providers see that their networks are becoming too tasked, implement a cap system which is being done now. I'm sure Comcast knows inevitably they will lose the network neutrality dispute, which is why they're moving ahead.

Uh, no. In fact, they've moved to the right. With the support of the PATRIOT Act, the Iraq War, harsh war rhetoric on Iran, telcom immunity and shielding, there's nothing to suggest these Democrats have moved at all to a perceived left.

So, could JFK have been elected by today's Democrat Party?

Could Jesus have been elected by today's Republicans?

Jesus wouldn't be elected by either party. He was neither a Republican nor a Democrat; he wasn't a political leader at all. So it's a complete non sequitor to bring him up in this context.

You claim the Democrats have moved to the Right. So, would they elect JFK?

Nope. Besides his very small House constituency, they wouldn't elect Dennis Kucinich either. (Kucinich being more relevant than JFK)

You also realize that Lincoln Chafee, once a Republican Senator, was even more to the "left" than Sheldon Whitehouse and a slew of Democrats in the Senate, right? This is the damage a party line will do. That's a shift to the right, and very symbolic at that. Never mind Pelosi's promise not to hold Bush accountable. I'm sure many San Franciscans were wanting to hang her for that. Of course, they're going to forget all about it and vote her in again.

VW - is there a country you can move to if Obama is elected?

Canada and Europe are definitely out for you because they are way too socialist.

You assume I have to move.

Well not really. The US is still less "liberal" than other 1st world countries.

That must 'explain' why we're behind them in most measures of individual success.

We are? News to me.

Now see. I think there's a little bit of inconsistency on your part here. The providers are wanting to charge businesses like NBC universal for network use here, and you would rather they charge the customer and let the businesses ride for free. Are you now for a form of corporate welfare on the backs of the consumers?

I think a closer parallel would be asking if Eisenhower could have been elected by today's Republicans.

Answer: nope!

This is already the case. You missed reading that part. They're called taxpayers.

You also missed the municipal part.

Tax Payers did not pay to build cable systems.

What property do they use to lay down their fiber? And who pays for that? Who maintains it?

Hint: It's not their property.

One thing for Repubes to check out if you haven't already heard.

It seems like lunacy/ridiculousness runs far and wide:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/21/...in4535858.shtml

A quote:

Warming up a crowd in North Carolina Saturday, Republican Rep. Robin Hayes offered the diagnosis that

“liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

His remarks came shortly after he had said he would “make sure we don’t say something stupid, make sure we don’t say something we don’t mean.”

I heard this audio tape on the radio today after he denied saying it.

Funny how tape can be replayed.

Please vote responsibly....

Oh I also heard on the radio today, that the head of Google is backing Obama.

(At least that is what it sounded like....)

Seems like Obama has great plans for encouraging and promoting capitalism in the U.S.

Maybe only the kind with some integrity...if that is possible.
