Today I had my naturalization interview appointment in Denver, CO, at 1.30 PM. I got there at 1.20, got checked in, waited 10 minutes and i was called in by a lady officer, who was very very nice!

She swore me in, then started asking me all the personal details off the N-400, to confirm they are accurate. I was out of US for more than 220 days in the past 3 years, she didn't even mention that.

After that part was done, she asked to see recent proof of marriage. Gave her the last 3 years' tax returns, joint bank account statements (from 3 diff. banks), hubbys' 401-k with me as beneficiary, joint health insurance cards, joint car ownership, joint lease agreements. She did not want to see the passports, marriage certificate and all that, she said she's sure they are in there. :) she just needs updated info, that's all.

after that she asked me which test do I want to take - old or new - i chose old, and then she asked me 7 civic questions:

- which are the 2 main political parties? (after i replied she joked about how she's sick of them already. haha)

- who is the chief justice of the supreme court?

- who wrote the star spangled banner?

- what is the supreme law of the land?

- when is the new president inaugurated?

- which one is the legislative branch of the government?

- what are some basic beliefs of the Declaration of Independence?

After that she said that I was supposed to answer 6 correctly and i got all 7, so she won't ask the rest of them.

She had me read one of the questions out loud, and write down "I want to be a United States citizen". While writing, I asked her if she knows that the support CD they gave me has the title misspelled as "US Citezen". haha. talked about that for a bit...

Next she asked all the rest of the questions off of N-400 (the yes/no answers), and then she congratulated me, saying that I am approved! Yay!

She told me that I will get my oath notification within 90 days, and that's when i showed her our plane tickets to Europe for December, and asked her if there is any way it can be done earlier. She left me alone in the room for a bit, and came back telling me that the next ceremony is on Nov. 12 and there it's not filled yet, so she wrote with a red pen on the front of my file to schedule me for Nov. 12. WOW!

I thanked her very much and told her how much i appreciate that she was very nice to me, and she thanked me too, and said it was easy, because I was very well prepared. :) We were smiling and joking all the time during the interview, it was so nice! She asked me how me and hubby met, and said she misses Italy, and then on the way out asked me about Romania. :)

I am very happy now, and excited that it was such a nice experience. I was really nervous about it, being that i haven't been to any interview for residence before, and didn't know what to expect. It was great, though!

Thank you all for all your help and input! Visajourney has been here for us all throughout this process, from before sending our papers for my fiancee visa 4 years ago, and I know as a fact that we couldn't have done it without you guys. And we didn't spend any money on lawyers, anywhere in the process, because we had your help, advice and support! Thank you so so much, from the bottom of my heart! :star:

Congratulations.

I had my interview today as well. I wish I was as lucky as you.

I didn't even get "congratulations", but "you passed the test and you will be notified by mail". :(

I shouldn't have any issues with my papers and the only thing I could think of is if I misunderstood the officer while asking me some of those questions from the application (he mumbled a lot and was hard to understand, and he interviewed me!). That would be the only reason I could think of. Just drives me crazy and will until I hear something from USCIS. ughhhh.

Have fun on your trip!

i'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience. What matters is that you passed the test and that he didn't say he needs more proof from you. What you'll get in the mail will be the oath ceremony appointment. :) Congratulations!
