So im filling out my packet 3 and from the front page i understood that i just send in the forms then the checklist, at least thats what it looks like, but now im filling out the ds 156k and it says that the following things must be attached

birth certificate

divorce certificate...i have none but do i have to send my fiance's?

police certificate

evidence of engagement to my fiance

and evidence of financial support

so do i have to send those things in with the first forms i send, and then also send them with the checklis, or take them to the interview? when do i send al lthe things that are on the checklist? but there are things on the checklist that aren't on the 156k list of things to attach when do those go in? guess i just dont get the whole process

You have to return the following:

  • DS-156 (filled online and printed in duplicate)
  • DS-230
  • Completed checklist
Complete the DS-156K but don't sign it and keep it with you (you will sign this document in front of the interviewer). Bring it to the interview, along with the other documents mentioned on the form.

At this stage, all the documents they want are related to you only. However, if you sent photocopies with the I-129, make sure you bring the originals to the interview because they have the right to ask to see the originals of any documents submitted in photocopy.

Oh, almost forgot. For the documents mentioned on the DS-156K (birth certificate, divorce certificate, etc.), bring the original but also bring a photocopy. You will give both. They'll keep the photocopy and give you the originals back.;)

Hope this helps and good luck on the rest of your journey! :)

What I did was send back the forms (156 and 230) along with the checklist. Then I called the clinic to see if I needed the cover letter with the appointment date or if the cover letter with only my case number would do. They said it wasn't a problem. I'm in Montreal and went to Dr. Seiden for my medical. So what I would do is check with the clinic where you want to go.

ok so i send everything at once then, the forms and the check list, just thought i needed to send the forms first since it said step 1 send these forms immediatly and then step 2 said to gather the things on the check list

Silly me, sometimes my brain isn't working right *shakes head* I forgot to say something important. I already had most of the required documents ready. If you don't have them all then maybe it would be better to wait before sending the checklist. Do send the other forms in though. Sometimes it can take a while to get some of those documents. For instance, I don't have a criminal record so I knew the police report wouldn't be a problem. However, if you have a record, then it takes longer to get it because they have to do a search with fingerprints instead of with only your name and date of birth. Then, once you have those documents, you can send the checklist. When the Consulate receives the checklist, they automatically put you on the list to be assigned an interview date.

Ok here is a stupid question....how do you provide evidence of your engagement?

The onlyl stupid questions are those which are not asked ;)

A new letter of intent from your fiance is a must. In addition, you can provide any of the following:

  • Pictures of you two
  • Emails
  • Chat logs
  • Phone bills
Those are the ones I can think of right now. Basically, it's anything which proves the relationship is still going.
