Car Dilemma

Ok, I posted a topic before regarding driving my boyfriend's car. Anyways, here's my issue & I hope anyone will post their opinion as to what they would do in my situation:

My car died on Thanksgiving weekend. It was my dad's car actually & I was driving it full time. Even when I moved here(just outside of Windsor, ON). So it died & now I'm out of a car. I don't need a car where I live because I can walk anywhere I want to go in this town...but I need a car to see my boyfriend in Michigan. I don't want to rent a car(about $45 a day at Hertz...the only rental place here). I don't want to buy a car in the US, import it here only to have to import it back to the US. I don't really want to buy a car here & import it to the US either. My original plan was to give my old car back to my dad when I moved to MI & then buy a car there.

The plan that looks the best in my mind right now(unless there's better options) is to buy a used car here - not too told though - & sell it before I leave & buy a new car when I get to the US. (Car's are cheaper in the US I'm sure you know, plus my boyfriend's dad used to work for GM & gets GM discounts) To buy a brand new car here & sell it when I want to leave wouldn't be the smartest choice based on depretiation value being far greater in a new vehicle as opposed to a used one. Plus I don't want to spend a whole lot at the time being. And leasing.....I only want it for about a year & a half so I don't know if that's a option.

Sorry for the long post...but i wanted to get it all out there. Anyone with ideas..I'm interested in hearing them....

Thanks

Have you looked into Leasebusters.com?

You can take over a lease from someone and a lot of times they'll pay you to take it over. I've never done it, but I thought about it.

I think your option of buying a used car is your best bet though.

The only other option I can think of is to just take the bus to visit your bf. Not sure if that's a plausible option.
