Hello,

Not sure why you are seeing the round trip cheaper than one way? My fiance is coming over from India on 11/6 on a one way ticket that is costing him $702. I checked a round trip, same flight, leaving on Bombay on 11/6 and returning 12/4 that would cost $1266. It's with Continental online.

Maybe check continental??

Yep, there are always exceptions :). Usually round trips are cheaper. If you are flying to the US from Ireland for example, I know Aer Lingus always used to have cheaper one way fares. It's worth it to check, but not may airlines offer those tickets.

I know Air Canada doesn't charge more for a one-way trip. A round-trip flight costs roughly twice as much as a one-way, which makes a lot more sense to me. Of course, this doesn't help in this situation, since the OP is talking about flights to and from Russia.

I think it really depends on how often a particular route is flown, what day you fly and how much time there is between booking and the actual flight itself. For instance, if an airline is flying somewhere that's difficult to get to or requires one, two or even three layovers, the cost will be higher. The time you book also matters, since the middle of the week is generally less expensive than the weekend and depending on the airline, booking far ahead of time may be less or more expensive (some airlines, such as West Jet, have "seat sales" as it gets closer to the flight date).

My brother visited Russia (Moscow and St . Petersburg) one summer and he flew from the U.S. to France on Continental and then from France to Russia with Air France. I don't recall how much the price was, however. The point is that two different airlines may be necessary.
