This is a CA proposition up for voting in a few weeks but I would like to hear what anyone thinks. Californian or not, US citizen or not.

Proposition 8 is an initiative measure on the 2008 California General Election ballot titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.[1][2] If passed, the proposition would "change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California."[3] A new section would be added stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."[4]

The measure was submitted for the ballot by petitioners with the title "California Marriage Protection Act."[5] The title and summary were revised by Attorney General Jerry Brown to more "accurately reflect the measure."[6] The Superior Court of California ruled in favor of these changes, stating, "The title and summary is not false or misleading because it states that Proposition 8 would 'eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry' in California. The California Supreme Court unequivocally held that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry under the California Constitution." [7]

Even if you believe marriage is between a man and a woman, why are we writing discrimination into the constitution of a state??? That's just wrong in itself.

Have you seen the ads? The basis for the opposition of gay marriage doesn't add up - just a bunch of scare mongering about the 'wrong messages' being taught to children in schools. Horrid abuse of power, again.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

yup. there's no such thing as sending the wrong message, it's not like being gay is a choice. Nobody wakes up one day and say, hey, I'll be gay, just because I'm a flaming liberal and I want to shock the world. If you're gay, you'll be attracted with the same sex, 'period. No outside influence.

I will be voting NO for both the wife and I.

As long as there are websites like ashleymadison.com that promote infidelity and divorce rates over 50%, it would be hypocritical for anyone to say that marriage is sacred.

I'll be voting NO.

Hopefully 50% or more Californians agree with me.

As someone mentioned earlier, the state has no business writing discrimination in it's constitution.

Discrimination is in the eye of the beholder. Prop. 8 just defines what constitutes marriage...a man + a woman. Other endevours are defined as something else.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Voting No on Prop 8 tomorrow. I can't wait for all the BS ads to be over -- on the radio, TV and here on VJ. Seems Google Ads is giving me "Vote Yes on Prop 8" ads exclusively today.
