Happy Monday everyone. :D

My habibi made it here with little issues. His flight from Amman was about 30 minutes late. Didnt have a single issue in immigrations. He said they didnt ask him anything at all. He said the officer was very nice and stamped his passport with a work stamp before he could even ask.

Does anyone know if he can get his liecense now or does he have to wait untile he gets his SS#??

congrats!!!! where was his POE? not sure about the drivers license thing

So sorry about the job Tasha. I'm afraid that my husband's gonna bail on his soon but I keep reminding him of the importance of finding a NEW job before he leaves the OLD one. Basically his supervisor is an azz and has fired about 4 people since he started the job!!!

Amal what happened to your husband to make him in this condition? Was it a car accident?

Good morning everyone else :) I have my surgical consultation this afternoon so inshallah I will be operated on sometime this week. It's really getting bad where I'm waking up three times during the night from the pain and throwing up at least once daily. :(

aw Bridget, that is the worst I have ever heard

good luck sweetie and I do hope GOD would help ease this pain before and after your surgery

Yikes Amal, I hope your husband feels better soon.

You too Bridget! Gallbladder pain sucks but you are almost there with a surgery date! It's not too bad of a surgery at all been there done that when it wasn't all laparoscopically done. Ayman would have stuck it out but you know they must not like to treat their workers good there. He said I have never seen anything like this before in my life. I'm glad he's out of it but starting to freak now.....

Congrats Peaches on the visa and his arrival. I think for the ss# you are advised to wait like two weeks before getting it and then he can apply and go for the drivers license also. Some states say that they will expire when his 90 days is up here but others don't. Just adjust status asap and show them that you have the papers so that he has a normal expiration date on the license. My poor hubster still has to pass the drivers exam.....he's a good driver but I think he gets nervous with the examiner with him.

Good to see you Melissa!

He was in a car accident about a week ago. He was hit head on by someone who slid accross the road into his lane. His head hit the steering wheel and he sprained his neck. The doc in the ER was stupid and even though we insisted that his airbag didn't deploy properly he said that hubsters head couldn't have possibly hit the steering wheel. He didn't listen and released us after about 20 minutes. Oh well, we at least have it on record that the ER saw him shortly after the wreck. He has since gone to a specialist to be evaluated and he immediately told hubster that he needed an MRI coz his eye didn't look right. He also hooked him up to the electric shock machine (he didn't know which one it was) and said that the muscles in his shoulders and back were definitely messed up. He's always had an issue with stress knots but these are unlike any he's ever had before and much more painful. *sigh* I do feel bad for him.

Anybody here work for insurance companies? They only gave him a rental car for 72 hours which is by far not long enough for him to get another vehicle and on top of that, he hasn't gotten the insurance money yet to be able to afford a new one. Does anyone know why it was only 72 hours and if that can be extended?

Brig, I sure hope they get u fixed up soon coz that pain is nothing to sniff at. Keep us updated and I'll be prayin' for ya.

Also, Tasha, I meant to say earlier that I'm so glad ur feeling better! Strep is a beeyotch!!!

Well I'm a sh!tty driver so I have had a LOT of experience with rentals. lol. Usually my insurance only covers like $25/day and I have to foot the bill for the rest. I keep thinking I"ll raise the limit when it's time to renew my policy but I never do. Anyways I have never heard of limiting the days that I get it unless perhaps 72 hours is when his total benefit runs out. Either way it shouldn't matter though since it wasn't his fault right? What does his insurance company say? As for when you see the $$$ all the times I've gotten into accidents, the rental place deals with the insurance so they get direct payment and you just have to pay them the difference.

I always think to write this and then I forget...........does anyone else have the problem with their husbands wanting a feast every dinner time? Breakfast he has a cookie, lunch he could care less but when I try to pass off something that includes less then like 7 dishes of food on the table for dinner he gets all mopey. He'd never outright complain 'cause that's just not him but when I push him he says that he's never eaten anything like that for dinner before.

Let me explain....in my house we normally will have a big bowl of chili, or chicken soup, etc. with some bread on the side and call it a dinner. To him that's not ok...soup is just a side dish to keep you warm. Also I've been making a lot of dishes lately where I saute meat, veggies and then add broth and rice so all the meat/veggies/rice is in one dish. This results in a very confused and sad look from the hubster. I try to explain that it all gets combined in the stomach anyways so what is the big deal and besides this way I save in having to do a million dishes, but still the sad puppy dog face is what I get.

Is this an Egyptian thing or a MENA thing?

these husbands/finaces of ours must have us confused with their mothers who stay and have stayed at home all day at their beck n call. They must think that it is as CHEAP here in USA to feed them these 7 course meal as it is there.

Oh dear GOD, what am I in for...good think I started practicing my Moroccan culinary skills (which I taught myself thank you)...but Saturday night, I stuck with a traditional and seasonal sweet....PUMPKIN PIE.. hadnt made it in years...i wish my hubby could share it with me :(

Well Alhamdolilah my MTL worked so he is used to "working meals" but trust me the saturday couscous thing I believe will still be a must. Anyone know why it's a big deal to do couscous once a week?? is it the meal or the whole family thing?

I am so lucky tho that my husband has been deprived of good food for so long that he will want to eat anything I put in front of him #1...he is actually looking forward to AMERICAN food #2....and usually all the food there is slopped together in one big dish anyway..how is it any different?? they add some salad, fruit and desert??

Couscous in Rabat for my husband's family is a Friday thing and believe me it is a long process

I could learn it but I need to see it done a few times

Surely I can make INSTANT couscous but that isnt as authentic

I am really into THE REAL THING

and I would like to keep that tradition once a week, on the weekend of course

Amal - wow, thats ugly about the wreck. I hope he gets some treatment and feels better soon.

Sweet peach, congrats. I'm sure you are on cloud 9 today - enjoy it! I think the DL requirements vary by state so you may want to just find your states DMV website and see what it says.

Bridget, I am sure Adnan would love it if I would cook a huge meal, and sometimes I do, but certainly not every day. Just humor him and put it all in separate serving dishes....

Tasha, lets hope something better is around the corner for you

Kelz enjoy your week of lounging.

Jackie, can you bring me some coffee? I'll be waiting.

everyone else, those I missed, have a great monday. if thats not an oxymoron.

when does charles get back? its strangely quiet without him.

I think the food issue is an Egyptian thing since he doesn't even eat couscous. It's not like it's a LOT of extra effort to put the additional bowls on the table it's just not logical to me why it's a necessity you know?

Example:

Here are two dinner presentations, one ending in a smiling happy hubby and one ending in a mopey hubby with maybe half a smirk instead of a full smile.

1) Chicken, vegetables, rice, all cooked together in one pot so served all combined resulting in one big bowl on the table with plates all around to serve the food on. Result - mopey hubby.

2) chicken, vegetables, rice, all cooked separately. Table has the plate of chicken, bowl of veggies, rice, small bowl of pickled veggies, small salad, small container of gravy, small bowl of olives. Result - happy hubby.
