Obama has stated on multiple occasions that he does not believe Americans should have a right to own semi-automatic firearms, or have concealed carry permits. Nancy Pelosi agrees with him, which is easy for her to do, since she is exempted by position, and has a private army, anyway. Between them, they would have the power to strip Americans of a basic constitutional right that has just been declared an individual right by the SCOTUS in Heller V DC. If this right is gutted, all of the 10 amendments are fair game.

The vast majority of people who own firearms commit no crime with them, and are law abiding. One of the pre-requisits for firearms purchase in a clean criminal and mental health history. We all get investigated before we get our CCW permits, and get checked out with a national database before buying a firearm. We don't often need them, but when we do, well..."when seconds count, the police are just a half an hour or so away". Dial 911, and they'll come just in time to draw the chalk lines. it's a good thing they come late, because the average police officer only hits target 17% of the time when he pulls the trigger. Liscensed self defense shooters average 39%, according to published crime stats.

They will talk about "semi-automatic assault weapons" and show you videos of machine guns, which are cosmetically similar, but entirely different in function, and already tightly regulated under the National Firearms Act of 1934. They will enact legislation to prohibit the new manufacture of semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns. This legislation will have little or no effect on crime. It didn't between 1994 and 2004 (Brady Bill), and it won't if enacted again. Somebody will ask Carolyn MacCarthy what a barrel shroud is because she is trying to ban them, and she'll tell them, "well, I actually don't know what a barrel shroud is. I do believe it's a shoulder thing that thing that goes up".

Ironically, the only person known to have been killed by a machine gun that was covered under NFA1934 was a policeman's wife. She was killed by her jealous husband with his service weapon.

How will this affect me? My hobby is gunsmithing, with a specialisation in military battle rifles of the cold war era. I have about $50K tied up in this hobby, most of which is gain from 10 years of clever trading and hard work. I also have lots of friends and personal satisfaction gained in the pursuit of the hobby. Obama wants to make what I do illegal. If he can get the votes to confiscate, or prohibit me from transferring (selling), he will. If this happens, I loose a lot of bux, and "what I do".

Will it save anybody's life? no. It's just another slice in the "death of a thousand cuts" that is ending America as we know it. I should just stay in China if this happens. I will be more free, here.

ROFL, I can't believe an adult would actually base their choice of candidate on something as relatively trivial as guns. Especially since it's not like the president can make a royal decree in January banning conceal-and-carry laws forever. And also especially considering their idea of what Obama wants to do about guns isn't really true. AND considering that up til now most gun-related laws have been on the state level.

But OooooK... if your little hobby is more important to you than, say, health care or jobs, than.... just...OK.

I cheer for 'ending American as we know it' Currently America is not the country it should be, or has been in the past. If you believe you will be more free in China than under Barack Obama, then of course your move should be that way, instead of bringing your SO this way.
