Ikea

I LOVE Ikea. We go there all the time. Pretty much our entire house is from there. However, now that we are moving on in life we are starting to look for more quality pieces. Most of the stuff there is 5 year wear stuff. Its fun and cheap and the quality reflects that. All of our stuff has held up well for the 2-3 years we've had it, but I don't like that I have the same bedroom as my friend because we can't afford anything better. Their marketplace stuff is AWESOME! Our dishes and most of our lamps are from there and we love it all. I don't think I'll ever stop getting their accessories :) The stuff for the most part is easy to put together, but if you aren't good at looking at directions, it can be tough. The only thing we had trouble with was our island cart. The rest was pretty easy.

Msu, I totally agree... The moment in life when I no longer purchase Ikea furniture will be a sort of bougie milestone for me. :)

But if you're really broke, $100 for a table and chairs set that looks sort of Soho-loft-esque is a really good deal, considering anywhere else (even places like CB2) it would be more than $1,000.

It's hard to quit Ikea!

When I lived in other states, I would go to St. Vincent's and I got some FABULOUS pieces I could fix up. I also would be willing to get stuff off of Craigslist. However, in NY, there's such a bad bed-bug problem (and so many other insects) that I would never trust used furniture. It's kinda sad for me, since I love antiques and funky used stuff!

Some of the items are good value for the money. Assembly is straightforward if you are mechanically inclined and do well with visual instructions. You have to look closely at the pictures at times to make sure you are using the correct hardware and have the pieces oriented properly. I'm happy with what I've bought there, although I haven't made any major furniture purchases. And you can't beat the 2 for $1 hot dogs.

I put in a bunch of IKEA cabinets and a butcher block work surface in my kitchen--they are fabulous! It's very much a do-it-yourself kinda place--avoid it if you are strapped for time. Check your purchases carefully--it probably took me a dozen trips to finish my kitchen--their warehouse screwed up a couple of times (gave me the wrong cabinet boxes). I enjoy putting together their items, but it takes a LONG time to figure them out.

The word on the street is that IKEA products are kind of hard to assemble. Don't know whether that's the case.

They'll open a store here next spring. Looking forward to that.

Easy to assemble. They have nice inexpensive furniture.... It is what it is.

i am so unfashion friendly when it comes to desinging my room... i just get overwhelmed. I choose conservitive pieces but love the "fun" style that's what attracted me to it to begin with.

Ive been around furniture for my entire life, my family ownes a furniture store in the Detroit area. They opened an ikea in MI about a year ago, and its helped our business tremondously. People come in asking "Can we see a real sofa"! lol. They dont have really strong pieces that can handle everyday abuse.

Nice store... good for when on a budget but you want to have seemingly nice things. Avoid the super sales though since everyone will have the same look as you!

Their DIY particle board materials are slightly overpriced IMO.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

That's what I was going to mention. I've seen several kitchens done up with Ikea cabinets, hardware, utensils, and small storage items. They always look nice, if not particularly my style. (Ikea stuff would look weird in an 1840 house) Definitely Loft, Studio, or 1950s ranch style stuff.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

So i am getting ready for my husband insha'allah at the beginning of the year and need to spruce things up around here. I saw the prices and items at Ikea that seemed appealing but i've heard good and bad.

I don't mind paying more for an item it it works but with today's economy if i can save a few buck why not?

Anyone have any experience with Ikea products?

All of our furnitures is from IKEA, I think their products are great! Some you might find a little bit expensive but you can mix and match..

I was SO LUCKY to be able to sell my mattress and couches when I left NYC! *whew

Its great to graduate from Ikea products. I furnished a lot of my past apartments with Ikea furniture when I was younger, then as I had money I slowly bought quality pieces, one by one, and got rid of the Ikea stuff! :star:

Count me in as another IKEA fan! I lived in Finland for a number of years, and got addicted to the clean lines of Scandinavian design - so different from the somewhat conservative style I was used to in my Italian home. Last year, when in the US, Michael and I went shopping to the IKEA store in Woodbridge, VA, and got a bed with bedside tables, a dresser, and a table with two chairs. Putting everything together was great fun (I love doing things manually, and I am a keen crafter), in spite of the humid heat, and in a single afternoon we got everything ready! He's an electrician, so he knows what to do in such situations, so we make a great team. I am looking forward to going back there to get bookshelves and some other things we will need for our home, once I manage to get there at last.
