Colin Powell is a distinguished Republican with a very strong record of service in our military and for Republican administrations. His endorsement today of Barack Obama was powerful, thoughtful, reflective. He made it clear that he held McCain in high regard personally and he a great deal of respect for his service. But he finds McCain unsteady and uncertain on the economy. He finds Palin unqualified to be President (although he says the other three are qualified).

This was a powerful, interesting, and for me quite unexpected endorsement.

So ... Powell's decision ... is now your decision? Does this mean you needed someone to follow?

The Powell endorsement is huge. It is the strongest statement from the Center-Right of the political spectrum that one can imagine at this late date. It will make a difference among active and retired military -- and those voters are concentrated in Florida, Virginia, and the Carolinas. It probably won't push Obama over the top in South Carolina -- but it may help him get to the top in the other three states.

well its another tell tell sign in the critical thinking arena who washington and the people will follow..need the majority on board for change. Plus diplomatically the world on the whole wants to get rid of the rupublicans and thier flubbed up policies. at this juncture in time,there is no other way to go but OBama.

According to popular thought here, the Dimocrats were MIA during the last 8 years, proving to be the most ineffectual political party ever. They allowed themselves to be run over and dismissed while Bush ran roughshod over them. Why such a sad sack, useless and whiny party that denies any responsibility for anything that has happened during the Bush adm is so appealing to many is beyond me.

Clearly VW, many things are beyond you - but of course Colin Powell's endorsement was racially motivated as you suggested yesterday.

As I suggested yesterday, were I to be a voter, todays' endorsement wouldn't have me salivating with glee or thinking it's over. It is what it is, no more and no less.

To the best of my knowledge, Colorado lets you vote one time each election. They seem to have lots of elections here. I always vote by mail. So, yes, I vote early, and often.

I absolutely fail to see the appeal of the ** party, so I don't get it. As a conservative, and not just a visitor to ultra right websites, I know the Republican base is not wing nuts.

I simply can't base my alligence in a party that fights for the right to kill babies in the womb, and considers anyone who is in opposition to that to be a wing nut. I can't follow them to turning this country into a branch of the EU, and the military into mush. I'm not willing to dumb down schools into propganda factories for global warming and gay marriage, and accept that I should not turn my ambition into prosperity that should not be forced from me. The ** vision is a utopia for some, but a hell for others.
