We found Brit foods

We drove into Houston this evening to see Houston Dynamo play LA Galaxy. On the way home, outside of Houston, we stopped at a big new HEB grocery store just to check it out. There was an aisle that said International Foods, so I said maybe they have British things.

Well they had a lot...Heinz Beans, Marmite, Galaxy, Wine Gums, Malteasers, Jaffa Cakes, Branston Pickle, Colemans, Weet-a-bix, PG Tipps tea, Ty-phoo decaf tea, Spotted #######, salad creme, brown sauce. Well here's a picture of part of the section. It's a bigger selection than we've ever found, and about half as far as driving into the British store in Houston.

Wow I hope they have one in Dallas

Otherwise I might be hitting you up for food parcels ha ha ha

Unless you truly live in BFE I think certain Brit foods are not too hard to find. It seems to be true especially in the case of chocolate and condiments.

there's a British store in Houston? where, where?!

HEB is great for international foods... as is Kroger

and weirdly, so are many Indian/Pakistani/other Asian groceries... we've found everything from PG Tips to Marmite to Lion bars to Colgate Herbal toothpaste at those places

mind you, we have to go downtown to the big Vietnamese supermarket to get Vegemite; it's a real collector's item

there's a British store in Houston? where, where?!

It's in the "Village" as it's been known for decades or Rice Village because it's near Rice University. (between Kirby and Greenbriar) It's a great shopping area with lots of unique and specialty shops, however the chains like Gap, etc have been moving in as of late.

Oh Specs downtown. Great place. The last time I was there I wasn't marrying a Brit so wasn't looking for that kind of stuff. My daughter lived in the apartments across the street. The British Isles store has lots of gifts, but there's shelves in the back with groceries and all the candies. I personally love Galaxy.

I bought something called Bisto at HEB last week. Some kind of gravy stuff. Hey, I've made those little round thingys twice...hmmmm...why can't I ever think of the name. Flour, water, egg...batter in little shallow cupcake like tins. Oh well, I made some.

Made a cottage pie too. With some leeks. First time I ever bought a leek.

Cost Plus - World Market is pretty good too (on the international foods) - can get REAL black tea there as well as other goodies. I know there is one in the Woodlands (north of houston) - and they are scattered across the country.

However I checked on the store locator and they have the store near where I will be moving to, so my mum is now off the hook for sending T bags, however my fave is still Sainsuburrys red label but you cant have everything

We stopped by a British pub last night. (We've been driving by it for the past two years saying "We should stop in there." ) They were selling real British bacon and bread and HP! We had the fish & chips & the mushy peas and watched the footie.
