I'd say because people's reasons FOR voting for a person have gone pretty much down the sh!tter. Now the only thing to do is find reasons to vote AGAINST the other person.

One thing I bet Aficionado would love, given his obsession regarding marketing, is elections today are entirely a marketing "gotcha" campaign made to turn the other person into an evil #######. The constructive arguments consist of aphorisms which don't really reveal much about plans.

It is true that there are some people who abuse their power, but I don't think that eliminates the importance of such a quality.

Republicans represent the most intelligent and tolerant people.

Look at how well they support the maverick and the troops. Oh, and how much they enjoy gays having freedom, oh, and supporting Muslims, they are clearly very tolerant of Muslims. They wouldn't dare try to paint Obama as a Muslim, and even if he were, they'd surely treat him equally and vote based upon his merits, not his religion. Yeah. This is the twilight zone.
