I drive before arriving but just my most treasured motorbike ( I missed it). Way back 2 moths ago my husband taught me how to drive his car...MANUAL TRANSMISSION ( I think something for a manly stuff ). After learning few strikes on it I told him I give up.. why mess with a difficult one when it's so easy to drive an automatic? Now I can say I am in 87% driving quality in an automatic car but I can't drive yet since I don't have my license. It takes a LOT of GUTS to drive in a place like AMERICA.

Good Luck to her! She can do it:)

Claudeth hasn't learned how to drive yet so are starting to look into it.

When I was still in the PI, my employeer taught me how to drive using manual car and sad to say I never learned at all he even told me that I don't have future in driving:(

When I came here my husband tried to teach me driving but I guess he is more nervous than me that he gave up also :P. Lucky I have a very kind and generous mother in law, she paid for my driving lesson it's only 6 hrs but I can tell that it helps me a lot. Next week I'm planning to do my road test. I can drive around our place and I even drove 10 hrs straight from our place( Sacramento) to Lake Habasu(Arizona).

If you still don't know how to drive, it's better to learn in the US. Our driving habits are totally different from theirs. Most Filipinos flunk the driving exam the first time because of Filipino driving habits. Also, master the DMV driving manual. :)

its better to learn how to drive in the philippines. if you can drive here in manila particularly EDSA you can drive in the usa...driving in america is easy its just that cars drive faster in freeways because there is no traffic but the drivers in america are better drivers than the phil. when it comes to following rules and regulations. i have been driving for years already and when i was in america i was driving already even if i only had my phil. drivers license and i took the exam i got a perfect score on my written and minus 2 points for my practical coz i started the turnabout while the instructor was giving instructions...not following rules and regulations -2 points hahaha.

i also have no formal driving lessons but i am a good driver never had a single accident yet and hopefully i would never encounter one. its just hard for me to read the exits coz i am near sighted thats why when i am driving i always bring my bestfriend tomtom GPS. i also drive a manual transmission coz i find it boring to drive an automatic.

but after 19 months in america when i got back in manila...OMG it was so hard driving again in manila as in nakakainit ng ulo ang mga pasaway na bus, jeep tricycle drivers. but cant do anything about it i'd rather drive than commute plus it is much safer driving than riding a cab.

just be brave and strong if you want to learn how to drive.

That's the problem with us Filipinos! We don't follow the rules! :D

as soon as i got my GC (one of dmv's requirements here), my husband enrolled me to a driving lesson (knowing its really hard to learn if ur learning it w/ ur loveone/s) took me 8 hrs worth of driving w/ the instructor, took the test and pass. after getting my license, i still went another 6 hrs worth of lesson from my instructor coz my husband thought i wasnt ready yet... and now i can drive except that i havent tried the interstate yet heheh... it was nerve racking at first and now im getting used to it... im more concious of my speeding and switching lanes... i follow the rules at least 98%

I had, still have ,the best and most patient driver/ teacher , MY HUSBAND.

Ive never driven in the Philippines. Driving here is my first time so my husband started me on a lawnmower. My husband travels a lot, as far as Texas and because I was already here, he chose to drive so I could be with him. During those travels, I asked a lot of questions about driving, why he did this and that, the signs and what they mean. I arrived here October 3, 2008 and by January my husband already allowed me to drive the car in backroads when we travel, even if I didn't have my learner's permit yet, shhhhhhhhhhh. Risky but we did it anyway. By April, I had my learner's permit and my husband would let me drive and drive and drive, even in the interstate. Since June I had my FL license and have been driving by myself. I drive in the interstate now by myself also. I still get nervous but the only way to conquer my fears is to do it. What also helped me was the fact that mu husband started me driving in highways with 55mph speed limit so I have good control of the car. Now I drive maximum 75mph in the interstate and doesn't get intimidated by semis anymore. Before everytime they are near me I sweat , lol.

I believe what helped me the most was my husband's endless patience in teaching me. He never yelled during the entire process and there were scary incidents but he remained calm so I didn't panick. There was even a time that he had to push my knee to put pressure on the accelerator so I could pass by a semi since we were on a lane that would end and had to merge. I sweated a lot, got shaky everytime he let me drive in the Interstate of busy cities. So far I had driven in a 12 lane road sweating but I had to, otherwise I never would have learned.

Now, I can visit my friends anytime I want if my husband is busy and I just started an 8month week course in Ocala where I have to drive 45 min one way by myself. Ive driven 3times in I-75 by myself and felt so proud.

She has to start trying otherwise she will never drive and I believe she can do it.

Goodluck!!

My wife is not driving yet but we are really not in a hurry. You can't get a driver's license here in SC until you have a green card anyway. Now that she is pregnant we will wait until after the baby comes. For now it is nice not having the expense of a second car.
