Clinton has many sins, but from his student days to his post-presidency, his commitment and sincerity in advancing the cause of African-Americans have been undeniable. If the man Toni Morrison called the first black president can be turned into a closet racist, then anyone can.

7th grader called racist for wearing Palin t-shirt

By Melissa DiPane

FOX 35 NEWS

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- She's only 12 years old but Ashleigh Jones is feeling the heat of this election year.

That’s because the seventh grader at New Smyrna Beach Middle School was called a racist by classmates for wearing a pro-Sarah Palin t-shirt.

Jones is volunteering at the Republican Headquarters in New Smyrna Beach. The Palin t-shirt was a gift from her fellow volunteers.

VIDEO: --Student called out for political t-shirt But when she wore it to school she learned just how tough politics can be.

“Some of the students were calling me racist because I was Caucasian,” she said. “I wanted the Caucasian man to win. And I told them that’s not true. It’s my freedom of speech, it’s my opinion.”

Jones' parents say they aren't mad at the school they just want everyone including their daughter to voice their opinion constructively.

Officials with Volusia County Schools said there were no referrals or complaints to the office about this incident.

Ashleigh said that more of her friends are expressing their views by wearing political t-shirts and she plans to wear hers again.

Good. She stood up to those thug liberals.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Kids are immature. So what?

Their attitude filters down from their parents in some cases, the TV in others. What it shows is that there is a distinct lack of perspective prevalent in the population at large that could, whichever candidate is successful in November, become a burgeoning problem here in the US.

Whoever lands the hotseat, and it looks increasingly like Obama, will need to make sure that bringing racism back to the dictionary definition, instead of the current application that includes political or religious preference, is done swiftly and effectively, or there could be serious problems down the line, for both political parties.

You mean kids like Herbert and MSM and John Lewis?

The search for McCain's racial offenses is untiring and often unhinged. Remember McCain's Berlin/celebrity ad that showed a shot of Paris Hilton? An appalling attempt to exploit white hostility at the idea of black men "becoming sexually involved with white women," fulminated New York Times columnist Bob Herbert. He took to TV to denounce McCain's exhumation of that most vile prejudice, pointing out McCain's gratuitous insertion in the ad of "two phallic symbols," the Washington Monument and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

I guess this doesn't bother me so much as its abundantly clear to me that racial insecurities factor into the US political system in a very overt way and have done so for a very long time. This is simply business as usual. Some voting decisions are simply shallower than others - I don't that's ever not been the case.

That said - the only significance threads like this seem to have (as far as this forum goes) is to bring down anyone who supports Obama down to the level of the lowest common denominator.

By even equating the title of this thread with the topic he describes, metta is all too easily showing how immature his rationalization process has become. One thing is arguing actual, mature points of policy, and another is rendering to the insensitive peanut gallery an image that has nothing to do with reality.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Guess this means Republicans and their supporters have entirely abandoned legitimate issues (like Obama's economic issues, like his supporting of corporate interests first, can go on and on with the usual stuff) and instead want to whine about racism and frivolous voter fraud allegations with zero merit. Very sad indeed.

Now that is true. Is it any wonder how even some Republicans are souring to McCain's campaign?

It's why most Independents are souring to McCain's campaign.

They keep harping on stupid and frivolous issues. Both McCain and Palin can't stop with their overly aphoristic stump speeches, and want to attack Obama on Ayers when logical people know the attacks are baseless, and hell, the attack on voters by the Republican party is really a scary indication that Republicans will sink to newer lows just to try and get elected. They just can't win on the issues. That much is as obvious as day.
