47 convicted in Casablanca cybercafe bombing

* Story Highlights

* Morocco news agency says 47 people sentenced in March 2007 bombing

* Court handed down sentences up to 30 years; four suspects acquitted

* Bomber detonated himself after cafe owner saw him on extremist Web site

* Ensuing investigation found group planning string of attacks in Morocco

RABAT, Morocco (AP) -- Morocco's official news agency says 47 people have been convicted and sentenced to up to 30 years in prison over a suicide bombing last year at a Casablanca Internet cafe.

The MAP news agency says the court in Sale, Morocco, handed down the only 30-year term to Abdelkrim Aot Ougard.

The report is not specifying his role. Twelve others have been given six to 15 years.

Four others have been acquitted in the verdict delivered late Thursday.

The convictions were linked to a March 2007 suicide bombing at a Casablanca cybercafe.

Abdelfettah Raydi detonated his charge after the cafe's owner caught him surfing an extremist Islamist Web site and an altercation ensued.

The bomber died and three others were injured.

The bombing sparked the police investigation that uncovered the group, said to be planning a string of attacks in Morocco using home-made explosives.

There was a cyber bomb in casa in '07??? OMG I didn't know that..... my hubby didn't say anything about it. Thanks for the information

Yeah it was right before our scheduled interview, the consulate closed for a month (or six weeks?! i forgot how long) and we had to wait to reschedule! Although that's nothing compared to the damage they've caused to Morocco. :blush:
