So even though we're still waiting on the NOA2, I was looking over the Packet 3 materials (thanks Nichole and Jason!) and noticed that they ask if the beneficiary has ever "misused or abused" drugs. Not trying to get anyone into trouble here (this is purely hypothetical--seriously!), but I'm curious as to how people have responded in the past. Would recreational drug use mean anything? I know the best policy is to always tell the truth, but this seems kind of tricky...

Didn't have a question about that ourselves, but I wouldn't admit to anything like drug use, unless there has been documented records somewhere, like an arrest. AND I would stay super clean for a long time prior to the exam just in case they did a random drug test. Somebody on VJ got sent from their interview straight over to Knightsbridge for a drug test. I don't remember why...acted high, smelled of weed...?? I forgot, but do remember them having to go have a drug test.

i read post somewhere here, that the main reason for her visa denial was admitting that she was a user , it appeared in the medical and USEM consul read it.

VS, just to make this absolutely clear, only a complete and utter spazzmong would admit to being a user (unless, as Nich says, it's legally documented somewhere). It's akin to ticking the "Yes" box on the VWP form when asked if you were anything to do with the genocide of Nazi germany between 1933 - 1945.

Just tick "no", don't turn up for the interview wasted, and you'll be just fine.

I've heard it numerous times that saying "Yes" to drug use or even merely trying, results in denial.

Ha ha chuckled to myself at this reply but totally agree. I wonder if anybody has ever ticked the box on the VWP form to do with genocide by Nazi Germany??

Back to the topic if it were me I would not mention recreational use in the past and if anyone out there does use every 'now and then' i would suggest staying clean at least 6 months prior to any medical or interview.

Good luck to all, i've got my medical on October 28th. Can't wait!!

Stuart :)

Everything about the medical examination is designed to determine if any visa ineligibilities exist.... When answering these question always answer truthfully but keep that in the back of your mind....

YMMV

There are some excellent answers on here--excellent, and entertaining! Thanks all.

To be clear, Spurs would be fine on this front anyway--I just wondered what would happen if someone answered honestly that they had taken drugs. Misspent youth and all that!

If so, they would not be coming to the USA as an intended immigrant anytime soon...

By anytime soon you mean never? Or is there a way around sharing such kind of truth in the past?

It's a limited time ban, not an outright lifetime ban. I cannot remember for sure, but I believe it's a three year ban if they determine you've used illegal drugs.

A former VJ member admitted to being a drug addict in her past, she had to file a waiver and get doctor reports etc, put her case back by only a few months.
