No what he meant to do was "mislead", this is what politicians do, certainly not an invention of Barak's.

What he should have said was...

"as for 95% of "working Americans" I want to either reduce their taxes or increase the "give away" known as "earned income tax credit".

I heard a proposal on NPR yesterday. The idea was that all presidential candidates sign up to an oath to tell the truth on the stump, when debating etc. This could be checked by the likes of fact checker during a campaign and anyone not adhering to the oath would be called out. I think the premise is that by signing up to the oath of truthfulness, a candidate basically signs up to telling the truth as the first one called out to be lying would be in the shitter.

I don't know if this was a serious suggestion, or even if it's workable, but it's great that people are at least coming around to the idea that free speech is one thing, political free speech that simply allows everyone to lambast and lie to their hearts content does no one any good in the long run, and does a great disservice to the American voter trying to make a decision regarding who to vote for.
