Wierd re Palin - self parody? Hmm, I am not sure she 'gets it'...

She doesn't. That's part of McCain's strategy: a running mate who fits in with the top of the ticket.

It's the goal of any business, no matter how small or large to show a net profit of zero, that's what they have accountants and comptrollers for, so they don't have to pay any taxes and there are always ways of finding those deductions. The IRS does love to attack the smaller businesses though, have a no touch policy on the big ones. For one thing, large businesses have a staff of tax attorneys that have more knowledge of the tax system than what the IRS has.

Now the people that are really getting nailed and nailed hard to the wall are wage earners with a W-2, practically no deductions, period. $3,500.00 for a kid is a bad joke, no way in hell can you raise a kid for 3,500 bucks, and if you could, you simply don't pay taxes on that amount so only end up getting a couple of hundred back or less in your tax burden. If you have a couple of thousand left over, certainly can't buy a tool for a deduction or a new vehicle you can depreciate, you are flat screwed.

If you earn less than about $35,000 per year, varies each year, check your 1040, are eligible for some credits, so can even keep more of your net income if you earn just one penny more than that cutoff figure, not only lose those credits, but in a much higher tax bracket, your net income will be lower. I didn't hear either Obama or McCain bring that up.

This bit about raising corporation taxes is also crazy, more taxes means greater consumer cost. People in our state want more corporation taxes, hell, they will just pack up and move to another state with lower taxes if not completely out of the country. Moving further from your job to lower housing and property tax costs has been offset by much higher energy costs that are not deductible. You cannot offset your savings by inflation, but still have to pay the full amount of the interest you earned, so your net gain would even be less while you are paying taxes on it. FICA taxes are not even deductible, that comes off the top as well as your income taxes.

All in all, we are getting screwed no matter which way we turn with a government that is not only exporting our jobs, they control that, but nailing us in every possible aspect with extra taxes. These are the issues that should be addressed. And we are fighting for freedom for a country that doesn't want it? The only way the surge worked is by paying insurgents not to shoot at us, that is also another issue not addressed.

Screw Joe the plumber, not even a good argument. Stupid with Americans dump enough to believe it.

I don't quite agree with these two points.

A net profit of zero is the break even point. And, anything above the curve is what the goal of businesses are about. Unless, you give me a rational reason why they want zero?

Raising corporate taxes will not increase consumer cost. For them to consider a site for their office, they look at several factors. There's no proof to indicate that the corporations will move because some states have less taxes than others, and why haven't they move there yet?

Because they're already there.

In Delaware.

Yup.

So true.

After studying for the past few weeks on the various types of corporations in the U.S. and tax laws, etc.

I came across that fact too.

Delaware.

An aside:

If you haven't see the brilliant documentary, "The Corporation", I recommend it highly; for educational purposes of course.

If that is the case, then why is many of the Fortune 500 top list are not in Delaware. This includes Best Buy, Staples, Apple, Microsoft, Starbucks, Google...etc...
