Hey guys! I just want to share...

I recently bought Magic Jack. It has been here in Philippines for only a month (that's what the lady said). My fiancee saw it in a TV ad in US 6 months ago but he made a research about it first and he was discouraged with the consumer review. I didn't know about his story but I saw the ad in a newspaper here in Philippines. I decided to surprise him because the lady told me that she will give me a phone number with the same area code of my fiancee's. So there. I got the shipment yesterday and was so nervous that I might be scammed. But after 30 mins of figuring it out, (Im kinda dumb when it comes to computers) I started calling my fiancee for FREE!!! It worked! It is clear and so easy to use, just like an ordinary phone.

This is only my first day to use Magic Jack. Let's see what happens in the next few days. I am not here to endorse this product. I am speaking as consumer,as someone who doesn't want her fiancee in the US to spend his hard earned money on phone bills and as someone who only wants to help her vj family.

OH WOW its cheaper than Vonage. We have to pay $239.99 for their Annual Residential Premium Unlimited Plan. Before that it was $24.99 per month. THIS is just $19.95 per month.:wow:

Its the same concept, you need a broadband connection, unlimited calls to US/Canada and you can pick any US area code. Except the voice gateway is a LOT smaller and you connect it to the computer's usb port.

Vonage's voice gateway is connected directly to the modem (thru ethernet ports). Both the computer (ethernet port) and phone (RJ11) are both plugged in to the voice gateway.

Whaaaaa i am amazed! Im going to get that for my family when i move to TX. I thought of leaving the Vonage voice gateway but they dont know how to configure it or set it up *scratches her head*.

Oh sorry.... im rambling hehe. This excite me! Its a must buy! (Parang ahente ako no hahaha)

Oh btw, Ria... can you test it for me if you are free. ;) PRETTY PLEASE. :D

Try downloading a movie thru utorrent or any huge file in bittorrent and check if the quality of the line fluctuates... if it gets choppy(?)... coz its internet based. Its connected to the computer, its somehow dependent on the computer's internet usage... they are sharing bandwidth.

Yeah, i made a mistake... its not per month. Its $19.95 per year and the equipment is worth $20 on their website.

For real? P4,500 for the voice gateway and no yearly fee of $19.95 ?! What the?! Thats EVEN BETTER! I mean $19.95 is cheap change if its an annual fee.... BUT FREE.... damn! I wonder if its available here in Davao City.

Hi Ria, when you told about this magic jack, I searched for this in sulit.com.ph and yes, there are lots of people selling this (in different prices!)... P4500 is a bit high coz I saw that you can buy it for less than P3000... Did your seller explained to you that the P4500 you paid is only good for 1 year? and after this you pay $19.95 per year (depends if you want to renew the services)...

I too am using a Magic Jack in the Philippines, and we love it. Works great, calls are clear, etc. Unfortunately, I have one here in the US and it has been, and continues to be a problem. I believe that sooner or later the issue will be resolved, but it can be a time consuming process.

It is cheap if you have Internet service and a powered on and running computer. For the price, I could toss the one I'm having problems with and buy another Magic Jack that works. It is really a great product when it works.

The cost in the US is $39.95 for a years service Canada & US LD included. There is an alternative Premium service for about $100.00 that includes 5 years. A good deal as they want about $20 per year for additional service. I'm not trying to sell anyone, anything. I've read the bad reviews, and the good ones. Works for me as a good cheap solution.
