I am still pinching myself.

I said I would take my daughter, but decided against doing that.

Arrived around 8:30am and I waited on line for about an hour outside the embassy - that was entertaining - one lady almost got herself expelled from the grounds because she challenged the authority of the security.

Once my bag/body scan had been done (in the port-a-cabin) I walked around the building to the entrance of the embassy, the guard asked if I had a camera, and if my mobile phone was switched of...........walked up the steps to the waiting hall there were about 300 people in there - though it was going to be an all-dayer. The sign said pull a ticket and wait for your number. I was asked immigrant of non-immigrant. I said immigrant........thank God, I had ticket #9, and 8 was already being served!

After a short nervous wait my number came up and I went to counter #14. The guy behind the counter was chatty, asked for the documents in the order he wanted them, scared the hell out of me when he said I'd only submitted 1 DS-156.....he did that a couple of times, the second time I told him if he does that again I'm going to have a heart attack. I had to sign my daughter's DS-156, but he forgot to give me mine to sign - I had to remind him. When all documents were collated, he gave me a pink courier form to fill out while I waited to be called for interview.

I waited for about another 10 mins before being called again.....counter #15. The interviewer (female) was very nice, made me feel relaxed, because I was really nervous. I did the electronic index finger printing, affirmed that statements in all the documents were true to the best of my knowledge. The interviewer was training a colleague, so she explained everything she did and why that was really helpful for me. They didn't ask any horrible questions, that's what I was dreading. She said everything is absolutely fine and that she would go ahead and issue the visas.

I was out of there by 10:40am.

Please note: The red APPROVED stamp that everyone talks about, is the stamp that comes from the USCIS. Mine was dated 12 April..........that was the NOA2 dated, had nothing to do with the visa being approved on the day - that only meant the application was approved.

I feel Good...........like the moon is shining just for me!

My interview was at 9:30am, I arrived at 8:30 or a little thereafter, and was 7th in the line, by time it got to 9am, there were about 40 people behind me. EVERYONE IN THAT LINE HAD A 9:30AM APPOINTMENT!!.

Please also note that the majority of the interviews are for non-immigrant visas. K3 is treated as immigrant visa, not sure about K1, perhaps someone else can confirm that. Immigrant visa applications have a separate ticket machine, my ticket was #9, but the non-immigrant visa tickets had already reached #268 at 9:30am!

It is worth being there early, because it's a strict 1st come 1st serve basis and American Citizens walk in ahead of everyone else. Please also note that if your spouse accompanies you that he/she should have picture ID. No ID, no entry.

Please also note, it's really not about queueing up, it's about security - you are entering US territory when you step inside............need I say more?

I only saw 1 woman on line with small children.

Hope this helps.

Regards

RMHurd

Visas arrived this morning! YoooooooooHooooooooooooo :dancing: :joy:
