Legal case against God dismissed

A US judge has thrown out a case against God, ruling that because the defendant has no address, legal papers cannot be served.

The suit was launched by Nebraska state senator Ernie Chambers, who said he might appeal against the ruling.

He sought a permanent injunction to prevent the "death, destruction and terrorisation" caused by God.

Judge Marlon Polk said in his ruling that a plaintiff must have access to the defendant for a case to proceed.

"Given that this court finds that there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant this action will be dismissed with prejudice," Judge Polk wrote in his ruling.

Mr Chambers cannot refile the suit but may appeal.

'God knows everything'

Mr Chambers sued God last year. He said God had threatened him and the people of Nebraska and had inflicted "widespread death, destruction and terrorisation of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants".

He said he would carefully consider Judge Polk's ruling before deciding whether to appeal.

The court, Mr Chambers said, had acknowledged the existence of God and "a consequence of that acknowledgement is a recognition of God's omniscience".

"Since God knows everything," he reasoned, "God has notice of this lawsuit."

Mr Chambers, a state senator for 38 years, said he filed the suit to make the point that "anyone can sue anyone else, even God"

wikipedia is telling me that he's a former senator but i don't know how accurate that is. anyone from nebraska around to verify?

what i find funny is, i was always taught that god was all seeing so surely he would know that a case was being brought against him?

####### is wrong with these people. First you have a senator who is concerned about text messaging rates, while the country is financially falling apart. Now we have a clown who has wasted tax payers money on even better bull #######.

Maybe someone can answer this for me. Why is there a limit on the presidents term yet no freakin limit on a senator??? When it should be the other way around..

Yeah, I got this from WIkipedia too...

He served his final day as a Senator in the Nebraska Legislature on April 17, 2008 due to a term limits law passed in 2000. It is generally agreed that even after 38 years he would have easily won re-election. As he put it, "They had to change the [state] constitution to get rid of me."

I say give the old dude a break... he's 71 afterall, he's lost a few sandwiches from his picnic.... OOOOP, a year younger than McCain...

The thing about good ole' Ernie is that he was the only black senator in the unicameral. From the only majority black district in the state. That district obviously had a connection I never had :-p

Former Nebraskan here to answer questions.

It is fairly accurate. Basically, the whole term limits amendment was passed because people wanted him out of the unicameral so much. He's been there for almost 40 years, and he has been known to filibuster just about every piece of legislation that he didn't agree with. As you might imagine...Erinie is quite liberal as well in a state that is as red as red can be. Therefore, he basically was the ire of every person in the state that did not live in his district.

I personally didn't always agree with him, but he was dynamic and a helluva smarter and savvier than the other senators. Being athiest myself I really enjoyed the lawsuit against God for more than just the stated reasons...

lol I just want to know what they expect God to pay them with! haha. O the thunder rolls!!! And the lightening strikes!!! haha. I hope he specifies the terms of payment before he gets something he really doesn't want.

It's great that he wants to prove how idiotic cases that are brought up are, but really, proving his point IS costing tax dollars. Couldn't he find a more economical way to prove it? lol
