First Congrats! and welcome here in the land of milk and honey!

You can get the SSN 2 weeks after your arrival to be sure that you are in the system already. I got mine after we got married so i won't be goin back and fort to the office for name change. It's actually up to you, though I believe SSN is not a requirement in getting a marriage license.

For the requirement on getting married well I dunno if it depends on state.. Here in Delaware, We just went to the nearest clerk of court here to get our marriage license. I brought with me my passport/visa and birth certificate. You can gogglle about the requirements in your State.

Good Luck and Happy married life soon!

All up to whether you want to get SSN before or after marriage for as long as your I 94 form is 76 days before it will expire. Get marriage license first and the only requirement is your passport. Mine I got my SSN under maiden name now I am waiting for my EAD to change it to my married name. The good thing about having SSN it is require when you open a bank account or insurance.

SSN is not really a requirement to get married. Base on my experienced, we just attend a seminar to get our marriage license bec. it was a requirement here in our City. But, every City is different. the best thing you need to do is, ask the official staff if you already decided where do you want to get married. In Courthouse or Church wedding.

thank you so much blukiss!!!

So I will check it out I guess I will just get my SSN number after our marriage. I appreciate that!

Your Welcome..just be sure to get your SSN not less than 14 days of your I-94 expiration kasi hindi ka nila approve ng SSN niyan coz your I-94 is going to expire soon. I suggest if you decided to get it after your marriage make it sure na apply ka agad as soon as your marriage certificate is at hand.

Have a good day!

Marriage laws/requirements vary by state. In many a Social Security card/number may be required but the requirement can be waived. (In Texas - if you have one, they need the number - if you don't have one, you're fine.)

congrats and good luck to ur up coming marriage... first of its either or, if u wana get an ssn before you get married or not... though i believe there are some states that require u to have an ssn as a requirement of getting married... here in colorado you can go to clerk/record (which i believe same in the other state) to get your marriage license... having an ssn is a plus for u to open a bank account and insurance too (which is a plus to your AOS if you guys have joint account in the bank, insurance, bills etc)... God bless and good luck!

We waited until after marriage to apply for social security card and were told that we couldnt have one because the marriage invalidated her K1 status. They made us wait until we received her EAD. My advice would be to get the SS card while you are still a fiance. It will be marked "not valid for work purposes" until you get your EAD. But at least you will have a social security number and can file your taxes and open bank accounts.

I want to add up the benefit of having SSN, two weeks ago I had miscarriage I called 911 long story short on the way to the hospital the paramedic asked my SSN thankfully I memorized my SSN number. My advice get SSN first then get married.

Be careful with that site, the information for the state we are marrying in was incorrect.

I applied for my SSN two days after I arrived in California although it is not really a requirement for marriage. They may require you to present your passport when you apply for a marriage license. California laws on marriage require a marriage license and at least one witness. But of course the requirements depend on what state you are in. -- Marie

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."
