Barack Obama is making a play for West Virginia.

The Democrat is launching TV ads in the state that George W. Bush won four years ago.

Obama lost West Virginia in the Democratic primary to Hillary Rodham Clinton as he struggled to win over working-class whites.

West Virginia was considered a Republican stronghold in the general election this year.

But Democrats say the economic turmoil in this hard-hit state and TV ads Obama has been running in its neighbors have made it competitive.

Obama is increasingly edging into what long has been considered Republican turf as McCain looks to play defense less than three weeks before the election.

A top adviser, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, said Obama is considering expanding his active campaign back into North Dakota and Georgia, from which he’d shifted resources, and into the Appalachian heartland of West Virginia and Kentucky.

If you look at Real Clear Politics at realclearpolitics.com you will see that it may not be a waste of time in WV. The trend over the last 2 weeks in WV has already been between Leaning McCain and Toss-Up in more than 10 daily polls over a two-week period (including FOX polls). A state that should be solid McCain. I have yet to see a Obama campaign management miss-step.
