*Hugs* I am so sorry that this has happened. (F)

I think your wife is probably feeling confused about the changes in her life, but feeling too dependent on others is NOT a legitimate reason to end a marriage, especially when she admits to loving you and feeling close to you and I'm sure you're extremely sweet to her. She's being immature and childish and I'm thinking that this MAY pass once she realizes this for herself -- so don't assume all is lost just yet. Go to her if at all possible and remind her of why you married in the first place -- because you love each other.

Also, she wants to be an independent, strong person who can stand on her own. That's wonderful and she should be, BUT part of being strong and well-cultivated is fulfilling one's responsibilities and she has a MAJOR responsibility to you, her husband, to treat you with more fairness than this. I think she'd come into her own more fully if she did that than if she abandons you!

No matter what happens, I hope everything works out for the best for both of you! (L)

Ok. My divorce papers came through yesterday. Ive had more pleasant suprises in the mail thats for sure.

They aren't the most cheerful papers to read either, they dont half seem so impersonal!

"Your wife has filed a complaint against you"

"(Insert name here) is suing you"

etc

They don't half make me feel guilty or like a bad husband or something!!!

I was a little shocked as my wife had told me she would give me a heads up when to expect them, as I wanted to prepare myself a little if you know what I mean. Her dad has been taking care of it also so I guess she may not have knew. I was also a little suprised as we recently agreed that she would put off the whole actualy filing thing for a few months whislt she concentrates on school, this would also give her a chance to use the extra income we get for being married to pay off the car loan.

It says something on them about getting them returned within 20 days, however that is going to be tricky I think. You see I have to get my signature notarized, and as any UK people know that is not something that is too commonly done over here. I will have to get a lawyer to do it I believe and from the looks of it it will cost me between $80 and $100!!!

Im also a little concerned because on the form where it asks for a notary it says something about a Idaho notary. I don't know if they would accept it notarised by a random lawyer in england, and I dont want to have to pay someone $100 to stamp my form only for it not to count. And there is noway I plan on paying to fly all the way to Idaho to have it notarised there. I was kinda suprised as there were no instructions with the forms what-so-ever.

Anyone any ideas?

Also I managed to build my computer finally and will be starting a blog soon. I will post the address here when im done.

David you can't use a lawyer to notarize unless they are ALSO registered as a 'public notary' - however many lawyers USE notaries (in the phone book under notaries public btw) for continental property agreements (more common in Euro) so they SHOULD be able to recommend one; find a local solicaitor who alo deals with foreign property buying, And yes, its not cheap - I paid £60 for something I needed notarized.

are you anywhere close to a us military base? the jag officials there are notaries. call ahead, get the times, and take a train or whichever to get there, probably cheaper than the $100 you were mentioning
