I hired a lawyer to take care of the K1 visa for my fiance. After the lawyer received my payment I have been unable to reach them by phone and email communication has not been much better. Recently I sent an email requesting the status of my visa. Long story short the reply was they lost my package. Since then I have not recieved any emails updating me on what steps they are taking to find my package. This is a huge issue for 2 reason. This will greatly delay her visa and second my life SSN, Passport copy, a check with my bank account info, etc...was in that package. Aside from filing a complaint with the bar association I do not know what else I can do. If anyone else has any advise I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like you have no choice but to file another petition. :( Firstly, fire your lawyer...and get a refund! Stop payment on the check and begin gathering the documents needed ...again. Use the K1 Guide and checklist here, as well as the example forms, to help you with that.

good luck.

Hopefully, you fired the lawyer the moment you heard this, and hope your paperwork ended up in a Shred-it box somewhere. As said in previous post cancel the payment on your cheque and try it yourself. As intimidating as the immigration process is, it is meant to be user friendly. You don't need a third party telling the government you love someone. Do it yourself!

Hold what you got and maintain.

Pay lawyer again....and tell him to do it right this time!!

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Apply for the Visa and other paperwork that follow yourself. This site has plenty of information and examples to help you with the process. If you have any specific questions then VJ members are here to answer them. This is your journey, you have a personal interest in this, not your lawyer. You are going to be doing 95% of work anyways by collecting and providing all the information to your lawyer. Its not worth the money to hire a lawyer.
