What would a German be without good black whole grain bread? Right; nothing.

mmmmm.....we went to a German restaurant last weekend up in Asheville, and they have wonderful black bread, so so yummy! I wish I could find some flour to make it myself though, I haven't seen any around here.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

It is the sell by date on the milk that concerns me... what do they put in it to make it last that long? I have never had US milk go off... but I suppose it has to be that way when it is sold by the giant gallon!

And as for the bread... I am putting a maker on my registry... !

The difference is that American milk is homogenized and European milk isn't

Well, some European milk is, notably french. However, it is possible to buy non homogenized milk in the states, at a price of course. Also raw milk if you want to go there, personally, I don't.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I think a lot of it has to do with

a- You're using a different fridge.

b- Kitchen temp/humidity are different (depending on where you live/used to live)

For example. bread goes moldy in Texas faster than it ever did in Vancouver. But my kitchen in TX is 25°C/50% while my kitchen in BC was 15°C/45%.

My milk goes bad slightly faster here, but the fridge I'm using is worse than the old fridge I used before.

I've read recently of a small town farmer who is being charged by the state health dept. for selling raw milk. Seems its illegal in all US states to sell raw milk

I've had raw goat milk. My Aunt used to have a goat. I've considered getting one, but I dunno how the dogs would react to it!

As for not kneading bread, not all of us enjoy doing that, so having a knead free recipe is good. Some of us are just too lazy ;)

New Hampshire has no laws regarding buying raw milk.

As for bread, oh boy do I miss the good stuff. I used to work at a German bakery making about 15 different kinds of fresh, organic, unbleached bread everyday. Nothing like the taste of fresh rye bread about 30 minutes out of the oven.

I miss real bread!!! I hate the bread here, especially white bread. White bread doesn't need more than 5 ingredients, and certainly not sugar or high fructose corn syrup.. Gross!!!!

La Brea has decent bread, we buy it at Costco... But no real dark bread or sourdough rye :(

Milk... well nonfat milk ia gross, basically water with white color, I guess you can uy that in Europe too but I never saw it nir woukd I wanna drink that... I miss milk in glass bottles - it tastes better. Even coke from a glass bottle tastes way better. We only buy organic milk, I wouldn't wanna touch that rbst-antibiotic-cocktail some places lable and sell as milk. (note: you can get cheap crappy milk in Europe too!)

Oh you're missing out. Hawaiian bread is the best and oh so sweet. I also love Challah bread, very moist and delicious.

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.
