It was really only a personal jab.

However, whatever "maverick" McCain was against his own party back in the day, he's certainly been Bush's b!tch in the nearly 8 years of Bush presidency. Anyone who is above spoonfeeding from McCain's self-proclaimed "independent" status recognizes this.

Has McCain brought Bush with him on any campaign rallies? I remember in 2000 thinking that Gore was trying to shed Clinton's image, but he did campaign for him somewhat. I don't think I've ever seen this type of absence before from a sitting party's President. Not that I blame McCain, but I didn't expect it to be like this.

no one can blame him. There would be no need for an election if Bush went with him on the campaignh trail.

That, and McCain might still be bitter about the 2000 smear campaign headed by Bush's boy, Rove.

Yet he's appallingly ready to smear Obama all over the place...

It worked against him. He thought it might work against his opponent. Just comes to show just how out of touch he and his campaign is.

I noticed that too - especially odd given that McCain asked GWB to help campaign for him after he secured the nomination.

I suspect it was a campaign decision - with the country in a shambles - being seen with Bush would be an albatross for McCain's neck.
