hi all,

I wanna share with K1 filers our experience on change of address.

1/ we changed my country of residence

when we filed the petition I was living in Niger so we filed for the consulate there. NOA2 was taking for ages and I was due to head back to France end of August so we decided to change for the consulate in Paris. Kai called the Vermont Center early August to ask them how to proceed. they took my new address in France and said it was ok.

We got NOA2 on 12th of September and received a letter from the NVC around the 20th saying they had sent our case to ... Niger. Kai called NVC who said they couldn't do anything since it was already sent. I called the consulate in Niamey and they forwarded our case to France. we lost 2 to 3 weeks in the process..

I recently read somewhere that there is a form to fill in order to make a change of address. I guess that's what we shall have done. But the person we had on the phone at the Vermont center should have told us to do so instead of saying it was ok...

2/ we change Kai's address in the US

We received 3 notices during our K1

the NOA1 was sent to Kai's mom addess (that he had never put as his current address..)

the NOA2 was sent to Kai's current address (he changed it online in June)

the notice from the NVC saying that our case was sent to Niger was sent to his cousin's address where he was living prior to get his own place (our current address).

what doesn't make sense here is that the notice from NVC was sent AFTER the NOA2: why would they use the new address on the 12th of September and a older one on the 19th? ..

I believe the Vermont Center gave old information about both mine and Kai's address to the NVC, and there is not much we could have done to avoid this.

Anyways. Just wanted to let everyone know how the change of address worked for us. I'm hoping it will help some of u.

I guess the conclusion is to not believe everything the lady on the phone tells u when calling the Vermont Center..

Then it's also a lot about being lucky !

good luck to eveyone with change of addresses and with the overall K1 process!! :)
