I'm lucky the Heinz Baked Beans sold at our local grocery stored is imported from the UK. You can get real Cadburys at World Market, if you have a store near you. I agree, the stuff you get in Walgreens/CVS etc is horrible. Apparently the Cadburys in Walmart is genuine imported stuff, though I have not tried it. Someone earlier in this thread said they had.

Likewise you can get Heinz tomato soup from World Market. We also found it at a local jewel by accident.

I really haven't missed much food since my very short time here (apart from the bread..but I've read enough over the years here for that not to be a shock  ) I found some very expensive Coleman's English mustard which made me happy.

But really I miss the whole ability of "popping to the Co-Op" on foot for some shopping....but that also wasn't a shock, I knew that was coming....but as a non driver one becomes very isolated very quickly. I love to walk and I am soon going to figure out a safe route to get my once daily 6 mile walk in. I am just unsure of the area right now....I mean I have a vast beach across the road from me which would be a great exercise route....I'm just being cautious I guess, as I don't know yet whether walking along a deserted beach is "safe"...if you get my meaning lol.

You're okay. It's safe there, Cookie. Just don't go swimming.

Ginger, I love your Picard.

I love how in the background Riker looks like he is cracking up and Warf looks confused.

By stating my familiarity with the names of STNG characters instantly makes me a Dorkus Maximus

OMG, I never even noticed Riker! And Picard looks like he's trying not to laugh too.

(Sign me up for the Dorkus Maximus club. )

I'm impressed - while a geek at heart I have never become engrossed in Star Trek... ;)

Hi everyone -

I heard from another VJ'er about The British Aisles in Nashua, NH. It's about an hour north of Boston - my husband and I just went this weekend and it is AMAZING!! They had tons of stuff and the owners were so nice. It's actually a wholesaler, they mostly deliver to supermarkets, but they open to the public, too. The hours are weird so you have to call ahead. You can check out their website to see what they have:

http://www.jollygrub.com

The owners recommended another place for us, Thwaites, which is a butcher/baker in Methuen (40 minutes north of Boston). They apparently do Scotch eggs, steak and kidney pies, and fresh sausage, etc.

Also some great recipies:

That's just some of the stuff I've been doing... And our freezer is full of Cadbury's :)

You own me there. But tell me...is R2D2 singing better than Carrie Fisher's?

R2D2 doesn't really sing - he bleeps.

The singer on that single was the debut of one John Bongiovi, known better lead singer of a big 80s band

Im not there yet but from experience of staying there I know Im going to miss... Galaxy, proper Cadburys, proper bread, the Comedy Store Players, QI & other good TV, Twinnings Earl Grey (US version is bitter), malted milk biscuits, Colmans mustard (altho I saw them using it on ####### Eye... a couple of years back so someone must stock it).

If any of you expats are in or visiting the NYC area Id reccommend Tea & Sympathy. They have a cafe serving classic Brit stuff like sticky toffee pudding and scambled eggs on proper toast :D Also they have a store selling stuff like HP sauce and Birds Eye custard :)

Ahhh, proper bread. I had a long discussion about proper bread with my American colleague the other day. Thing is, I'm actually used to this bread now so it doesn't bother me. Cheese on the other hand...

I also miss non-chain restaurants, of which there are very few here. And British curry and the Chinese chip shop.
