Is that the proper Cadbury or the Hersheys kind?

Its Hershey chocolate with a cadburys wrapper! Its disgusting.

We can get British or Irish bacon, sausages, black & white pudding here for around $5 each. We are lucky living in Chicago, there are so many import stores.

I miss..

Being able to use my Newcastle United season ticket.

British tv

Being able to see British bands live, who don't play the US

Haggis (going to make my own soon)

fried pizza & chips from my local chippy

Bread - Isn't as good here for sure. Though Ginger makes some lovely soda bread.

Monster Munch pickled onion

That ..and wagon wheel!! I'm still in London but haven't eaten wagon wheels in a while because I have to teach my body to reject it for now :( I know that sounds ridiculous.

I miss the rain and the gardens and the change of seasons.

Where is that British supermarket in Kissimmee, Saffyre? Was it any good?

It's called Churchills and it's more of a tea room with a little imports section but they have a pretty decent selection. It's here: http://stores.churchillsgroceries.com/

The bread here is just wrong, I dont know what it is but it tastes like plastic....yuk!

Is that the proper Cadbury or the Hersheys kind?

It's PROPER Cadburys....I hate Hersheys and I would definitely know the difference.

Good to hear Walmart carry the real stuff. We bought "Cadburys" at a Walgreens once, it was Hershey chocolate. So always best to check the wrapper to see who makes the chocolate. I felt so cheated when I bought my "milk chocolate" bar only to find it was the yucky Hersheys #######.

I've been making my own bread, partially cos I have a lot of time on my hands, and partially cos I just loooove using my new kitchenaid mixer. I've got it down to an art at this stage. Though I'd understand why a bread maker would be more reliable. Sometimes the bread takes 4 hours to rise, last night I left it over night, and it still wasn't fully risen by morning. I've had to step up the breadmaking of late cos having 6 people in the house means they use at least a loaf a day.

You can put it in a really low oven to rise also. :)

Thanks! That looks like it's about 45 mins from me. I'll pop in the next time I'm in Orlando. Which will probably be this weekend.

I agree the bread here SUX!!!!! I bring lots back from Canada with me and freeze it. Especially the rye and the malt bread. But I have found one type of bread here in Walmart (of all places!) that is the closest to normal I have found. It's called Arnold Natural Wheat Original Brownberry Recipe. :)

Saffyre, did you ever get your driver's license?

Yeah, Bruce is nuts about that TJ's Coastal Cheddar too. I have to go out and get some more today now that I'm finally back in Cali...

Between the both of us, we miss: Feminax (me obviously, DUH), proper cheese, pickled eggs and onions (him only), Lucozade (gatorade is nasty), Mint Viscounts, Jammy Dodgers, gravy granules, PG Tips that don't cost like a gazillion dollars, pubs (me), rain (!!! but ask me again when it's December) and his mum (us both). My mom just bought me some Feminax when she was visiting my brother last month so I am a happy and uncrampy girly.

Where in FL are you Krikit, cos i'm about 45 mins from Kissimmee too. I live in Haines City.

Oh, good for you! Congratulations!

I am on the other side of Orlando. In Mount Dora. One of those small-town Sunday drive touristy destinations. I really like it here. It reminds me of where I lived in Canada.

Yep , I know where that is......The hubby works out at Zellwood sometimes :)

Since you're not amazingly far away and I think there are others around from thr Orlando area, maybe we should try and arrange a VJ meet up. What do you think?

Real cheese and pickle sandwiches.

My mum keeps me supplied with pickle (it's ridiculously expensive at the international stores here) but I have yet to find PROPER cheddar. I get some ####### from Kroger but it doesn't even come close.

I also miss Cheshire, Wensleydale, double Gloucester with onions and chives, and this amazing spicy cheddar I used to get whenever I was in Oxford. So, I miss real cheese.

Ooh and treacle tart and real custard.

I've also had the fake Cadbury chocolate which is really Hershey's. I got the fruit and nut bar, it was similar but the chocolate just didn't taste right.

I miss real Easter eggs at Easter, and my family. Is that enough? :D

I found 'real' custard in Publix...but one can was...$4!!!! Ambrosia Devon Custard though - YUM!

As for the treacle tart, well, I found Lyles Golden Syrup in the British Store I found so I am thinking I could probably have a go at making some treacle tart...maybe....

The cheese here isn't right - I agree. I tried some cheddar but it just didn't cut it. I miss Lancashire Crumbly Cheese!!!

There's an Indian shop here in Los Feliz that sells some british stuff, I know they have a pile of PG tips, but I forget how much they're charging for it. They also have some biscuits and custard and a few other british things, I'll have a look next time I'm in the area. Might be cheaper.
