I've read a couple of these similar threads - but a lot of them are canadian based, so I wondered what everyone who has moved to the US from the UK really misses?

I went to a British Ssupermarket in Kissimmee last weekend and paid $15 for some proper English Back Bacon. Oh and $5 for a sliced loaf.

God I miss proper bacon butties and I was in heaven when I got that stuff home and cooked it!

Ahh yes the chocolate...I have read a lot about people who miss Cadbury's...but you can get it in Wal Mart, and Publix. Although it costs over $1 for one bar. Sometimes it's just worth it though. You have to have a bit of what you fancy.

I got some Jaffa Cakes and Refreshers when I was in that store and I keep going back to the kitchen to get 'just one more'....

Trader Joe's does some good chocolate :D

Things I miss... decent sausages and bacon. I love the Asda Extra Special sausages that come in all flavours. Bread that doesn't taste like cake. Watching the X Factor with (as I get to this point I get a guy turn up with a parcel from my mum!!!) my mum...

*excitedly opens the parcel*

Ok so it wasn't the parcel she is going to try and smuggle cheese in  but I got:

*Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce (without HFCS!!!)

*Chicken Gravy Granules (Tesco, not Bisto but it's all good :D)

*Tuc biscuits

*Kitty treats I had left behind

*24 Beef Oxo cubes

*12 Chicken Oxo cubes

*12 Veggie Oxo cubes

*Sticky heat patches (you can get them for £1 in Asda and they are soooo good at "that" time of the month)

*Packet of Paxo Cranberry & Chestnut stuffing (for Thanksgiving :D )

*Packet of mulled wine spices I left behind (M&S no less!)

*Two tubes garlic puree

I am hoping she will send some tomato puree (you can only get it in cans here...) and bovril. Obviously I miss decent cheese as well...

I've only missed two things so far... instant gravy granules and bread. US bread has far too much HFCS for my taste and is more like cake than bread. I'm seriously considering buying a bread machine because I just can't eat the stuff in the supermarkets here at all.

You can get tomato puree in tubes - can't remember where we get it though (either Ralphs or TJs)

We miss pubs, proximity to Europe and British sense of humor the most. He would probably add "football" into the mix even through he probably watches more matches on TV here than he ever did back there.

Is that the proper Cadbury or the Hersheys kind?

Its Hershey chocolate with a cadburys wrapper! Its disgusting.

We can get British or Irish bacon, sausages, black & white pudding here for around $5 each. We are lucky living in Chicago, there are so many import stores.

I miss..

Being able to use my Newcastle United season ticket.

British tv

Being able to see British bands live, who don't play the US

Haggis (going to make my own soon)

fried pizza & chips from my local chippy

Bread - Isn't as good here for sure. Though Ginger makes some lovely soda bread.

Monster Munch pickled onion

Nicky - I asked mum to send me some monster munch!! Glad it's not just me!!

Robin - I have looked in every store we have been in and have only found the tom puree in tins - I must need to look harder!! I just find it odd, especially if you don't use it that often...

Oh and here I also miss the autumn, winter and spring even though I haven't got to those yet  The sun and heat is lovely but I miss the changing seasons :)

Ohhh and my local chippy  Mmmmm chips and curry sauce...

I will have to ask himself - he is very insistent about tomato puree coming in a tube. Thinking about it, it was probably Ralph's - the posh "Fresh Fare"-style Ralphs

Trader Joes do a great garlic puree, and tomato puree for that matter (though it is in tins). And I just got a cheese from TJ's the other day and it's fantastic, it's an english cheddar from Dorset called English Coastal Cheddar i think, it's really strong and yummy.

I just got some good stuff from home, a bunch of chocolate biscuits, soda bread, beans and peas (batchelors), butlers chocolates, Barry's tea and some other stuff I can't remember.

I've been making my own bread, partially cos I have a lot of time on my hands, and partially cos I just loooove using my new kitchenaid mixer. I've got it down to an art at this stage. Though I'd understand why a bread maker would be more reliable. Sometimes the bread takes 4 hours to rise, last night I left it over night, and it still wasn't fully risen by morning. I've had to step up the breadmaking of late cos having 6 people in the house means they use at least a loaf a day.
