Hi everyone!

One of the requirements for the K1Visa interview is Police Certificate, from places lived since age 16. Benficiary has lived in couples different cities in Indonesia and studied in Australia. Does she have to get all the Police Certs from those different cities and from Australia as well?

If anyone knows or have the same issue please advise.

Thanks so much.

Police certificates are generally required for the country not the city. However I dont this it is possible to get a police certificate for Indonesia. (see http://www.***removed***/immigration/police-certificates.html ) You might want to phone the embassy about this.

If she lived in Australia for longer than 6 months (some places say 6 months, some a year ... I think better safe than sorry) she will need a police certificate for Australia.

Hi Bintang,

The beneficiary only needs one Indonesia police certificate from MABES POLRI in Jl. Trunojoyo, Jakarta Selatan. It covers the entire Indonesia territory. If you need more detailed information about how to get this police certificate from MABES POLRI, let me know :)

As for police certificate from foreign country, you can contact the country's respective embassy in Indonesia. They will assist you to get it, but usually it may take quite some time (I needed police certificate from Japan, and Japanese embassy in Jakarta said it would need 2-3 months to get it). I suppose every embassy is different, so I suggest you call Australian embassy in Jakarta to get some information about this.

Best of luck to you :)

Hi D

Thanks. Called the Aus Consulate they said to contact Australian Federal Police directly to get the Certs.

Yes- need the info on how to get the Cert in MABES, is it only one cert will be issued by MABES? Will they need local Police letter as a proof ?and how long does it take to get the Cert from MABES? Also, what is the timeframe to get the certs available..should we get it now or wait for the Packet 3 to arrive? We just sent off the petition on the 7th last week and have not get NOA1 yet. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi again Bintang,

In Indonesia, the police certificate is known as "Surat Keterangan Catatan Kepolisian" or SKCK. There are three procedures to get SKCK from MABES POLRI. I will explain one by one.

First step: Getting a certificate from local village office where your fiancee resides ("Surat Keterangan dari Kelurahan", in Indonesian). To get this certificate, your fiancee needs the followings:

1. "Surat Keterangan dari RT/RW"

2. Copy of her KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk)

3. Copy of her KK (Kartu Keluarga)

When your fiancee goes to the local village office, tell the officer there that she needs the "Surat Keterangan dari Kelurahan" to apply for SKCK at local POLRES (District level police department) office.

Second step: Getting SKCK at local POLRES office. To get SKCK from POLRES, your fiancee needs the followings:

1. "Surat Keterangan dari Kelurahan"

2. Copy of her KTP

3. Copy of her KK

4. Four photos, 4 cm x 6 cm

When your fiancee goes to the POLRES office, tell the officer there that she needs the SKCK to apply for SKCK in English at MABES POLRI. This fact should be stated in the SKCK issued by the POLRES. I got my SKCK from POLRES the same day I applied, and it was free of charge. SKCK from POLRES is valid for three months, so be sure to use this SKCK to apply for SKCK at MABES before it expires.

Third step: Getting SKCK at MABES POLRI. Your fiancee needs the followings:

1. SKCK from POLRES

2. Copy of her KTP

3. Copy of her KK

3. Copy of her passport

4. Three photos, 4 cm x 6 cm

I got my SKCK from MABES POLRI one day after I applied, and it was also free of charge. SKCK from MABES POLRI is valid for six months, however I recommend you to get this done after you receive your NOA2 because you never really know how long it will take for USCIS to approve your petition. Also, there will be plenty of time for your fiancee to get her SKCK after NOA2 and before document screening at the embassy, because as you can see... the whole process doesn't take long.

Hope this helps :) let me know if you have more question.

Hi D,

Thanks for your detail reply.

Not really sure regarding the Local Pol Cert. to bring to MABES, do they need only one from local police in recent residence or from local police of former residence as well?

Regarding KK, do they need to see the original KK or only the copy one?

Photograph...any specific background color required?

Thanks a lot. Appreciate your reply.

You only need one police certificate from local police in recent residence to bring to MABES.

In my experience, they only looked at the original KK during the first step (at village office). But I had always brought all original documents along with the copies during the whole process, just in case. Better be safe than sorry.

No specific background color required for photograph. But the MABES does require you to wear somewhat a formal outfit in the photograph (shirt with collar, not t-shirt).
