Stelle,

Would you please tell me the name of Senaters and US representative of Virginia State. I don't have the answers. I have to include that to make 100 questions for the interview.

love,

Lappa

Virginia senators are Webb and Warner (note that there is a new Warner now since the old one recently retired). Who your congressman is depends on where you live! Take your pick here: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.shtml#va

When did that change? Last time I checked it was Mark Warner. Is that still up to date? Or do I have to go back to the website?

The current one is Mark Warner. The old one was John Warner (he retired last month) :innocent:

Just too let everyone know my wife's oath ceremony went fine. Yesterday. She is DONE!!!!

Congrats Siglet!

We went to the DO in Atlanta yesterday, but my wife's name was not on the list. We are a bit confused, but our Congressman's office will be calling on Monday morning to see what happened. Last week my wife passed the test and her IO told her to come back on the 20th at 1:20pm for her oath. Her IO was not there yesterday to explain what happened, and the secretary said the file was locked in his office and could not be accessed until he gets back on Monday. :(

I guess everything is fine, but we are a little miffed. My parents came back from their vacation in Florida, my grandmother drove 2 hours from north Georgia, and I came back from a work-related trip in Washington, DC for this oath ceremony thing. I guess we should have waited for the letter and not listened to the IO.

Congratulations stiglet!

@Thomas and Milena: that sucks! I hope you hear something soon! Good luck!

Me too. The secretary actually said that my wife's IO has had problems in the past with being overly optimistic regarding his own ability to process approvals in a timely fashion. She apologized on his behalf and assured us that nothing was wrong. This is normal. Waiting around on pins and needles!!! Seriously, the wait between the interview and oath might just be the worst part of our whole visa journey. Perhaps this is because it is the last wait!!!!

I had my interview at the Newark office on Wednesday 2/18/09 and am so happy to say the journey is finally over!!!!!! The interview was a pretty easy going experience but a very very very long one!!!! We arrived at Newark at around 8:10am for my 8:40 interview. The room was already full at 8am which is unbelieveable!!!! but i guess people just get there early and wait it out! I finally got called into my interview at about 10:30am and by that time was very anxious! My immigration officer was extremely mean and didnt seem to enjoy interviewing people....I guess i probably wouldnt enjoy it either. I kept a smile on my face regardless.

As soon as i entered his office and was sworn to tell the truth he sat down and quickly questioned my application based on marriage, thankfully i had all my originals and extra copies of everything. Make sure if you go to the newark office you have all originals, extra copies and updated information. I gave him some updated bills from my husband and myself, our 2008 tax returns (he was surprised I had lodged them already) but i told him we do it every February - which we do. Then he asked me about my trips out of the USA and questioned how many trips i had taken, it all matched up in my passport and when he had all the information he needed he actually smiled at me and made some chit chat with me...After the initial start to the interview and his mean approach, we chatted for a long time about Australia and lots of different things. He found out i was pregnant and we chatted about that back and forth... He certainly changed his mood once he realised i had all of my documents and was legitimate.

Then he finally tested me, i got the first 6 questions right so he didnt bother with the other four. the questions were very easy, they were from the new test and i was glad to just have it over and done with...then i had to write the sentence, we have one hundred senators and say it out loud. Then he worked on his computer a little bit and said you got the job...and i looked at him with a strange look on my face and he was like relax, you passed you are going to be a citizen today...which surprised me as he said my oath would take place that same day! i was prepared leave and have to come back! i was relieved to be able to get it done in one day! apparently Newark is one of the only places where they process everyone on the same day. I wish i had of known that because i didnt have my camera with me! After he gave me all the necessary paperwork to say i had passed we chatted a bit longer and he wished me luck with the baby and i wished him well and finally left the interview.

My husband was worried because i was taking so long, but i went back out to the waiting room expecting to wait another 25-30 mins for the oath ceremony...but ended up waiting another 4 hours. wow what a long day when you arent allowed food or drink in the waiting room. Not good for a pregnant woman!!! So i made my husband stand guard in the room in case they called my name and snuck out to the water fountain a few times in the day.

We later found out that there was a cafeteria on the second floor and my husband and i could have popped down there for food, but its over with now! If you go to Newark make sure you put some snacks in your bag and a bottle of water and be prepared to wait a long long long time!!!!! all up we waited over 7 hours.

The oath cermony had about 100 people in it and they run them every hour in Newark, it was a nice short ceremony which lasted about 25 minutes, again i wish i had of had my camera there but i am just glad to have my papers and able to vote and get my passport!

If I could give any advice make sure you keep a clear head! take originals and copies of everything, he asked for both, and take your camera to Newark! I saw a few people get denied because they didnt take copies of documents...even though he had my file in front of him, he still wanted to see everything - it seemed like opening my file and actually looking through it was too much for my immigration officer!

Good luck to everyone with up and coming interviews!!!!!!

Hi @ oldahmed,

This is my first time to join the forum and i think i have the same time line as you @ oldahmed.

I had my Interview on 2/4/2009 at 1pm Fairfax VA and was approved  (passed all the tests) and was told to wait for oath letter 2- 4 weeks in the mail. It has been nearly 3 weeks now. Please @ oldahmed if you get the oath letter and date let me know i'm getting very nervous.

On top of all this i had an old (10 year old DUI, i was not convicted and never saw a judge or anything of that matter) I had my lawyer with me in the interview and i didn't have much to present in the interview for the DUI because it was 10 years old i could not get a deposition from court because my record does not exist and DMV record is clean.

The IO said everything looks great Congratulations and you will take the oath in 2-4 weeks and he also said that he does not need any papers or certified docs. from court, police or DMV for the DUI. I only gave the IO what was left from 10 years ago which was the DUI arrest doc. and court date slip and the district attorney clerk receipt that i was given when i showed up in court. So i have no charges for the DUI, never saw a judge and i paid only $100 fine at the DMV for my license to be reinstated since it was only valid and restricted for 30 days after my arrest 10 years ago. My lawyer keeps telling me to just wait and you will get the oath soon.

I would greatly appreciate anyone's help or experience good luck everyone and i wish you all the best :help: .

Hi oldahmed, thanks for the reply :)

Do you know anyone in the same DO FairfaxVA-Washington D.C . I have been looking at the forums and everyone that took the interview on or after Feb 4th 2009 was told to wait 2-4 weeks for the oath in the mail. During my interview the IO said that he does not know the schedule for the oath ceremony and he can't really give me a date but to wait for it to be mailed.

My time Line below:

Finger Appointment 11AM - 12/05/2008 (Completed) Alexandria VA, DONE

Interview Letter Received 01/07/2009

Interview -Date 02/04/2009 Approved –passed test

Oath letter send - xx/xx/2009

Oath date - Final xx/xx/2009

I was actually thinking that I should have stayed in touch with anyone who passed the test same day with me, so thank you for joining. I was told the same thing, I should expect the oath letter within a month, so let's hope it will come soon. I will let you know once I get it.

I don't think that your DUI will cause any problem since the IO approved your application.

keep me informed about your situation please.

No, I don't know anybody else who had his interview the same day. I think we just have to wait.

Hi oldahmed, i found this forum called "Is Fairfax still conducting same day oaths?" and i just read a post from "manty" see below:

The following email might be useful - I was forwarded it by a friend:

"The Washington District Office advises that for at least the next several weeks it will be reducing the number of daily N-400 naturalization oath ceremonies conducted at USCIS Fairfax in anticipation of special ceremonies involving larger groups to be held at the Lincoln Memorial on April 12, and at the new Capitol Visitor Center on an as yet unspecified date. Regular daily ceremonies will continue to be conducted from time to time, although beneficiaries of approved N-400 applications may not be provided a date and time for their oath ceremony upon completion of their interview. USCIS Fairfax will continue to provide same-day oath ceremonies in special circumstances where N-400 applicants demonstrate reasonable need, and will be flexible in consideration of these cases. They will also continue to perform same day administrative ceremonies for Sec. 319(cool.gif cases, where the applicant resides abroad."
