Just wanted to say hello before running off and posting questions. My fiance is British, I'm American. We met in Afghanistan back in 2005 and after spending two years apart, recently got back together again. Now I'm trying to get him over here, and it's probably one of the most insanity inducing things I've ever seen. :blink:

If he is fiancee why does your profile say K-3, wouldn't you be filing an I-129F for a K-1 fiancee visa?

If you do plan on marriage and spousal visa, consider the CR-1 it is taking about the same amount of time to get as a K-3.

Consider carefully the K-3, in most cases it does not save much time, compare timelines, K-3 was developed at a time when CR-1 cases were taking a very long time, this simply is not the case anymore.

CR-1 has the big benefit of GREEN-CARD upon entry, NO ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS. K-3 CANNOT get SSN, WORK, or Get driver's license until they have EAD or Green-card, EAD can take 90 days or MORE to get.

K-3:

I-130: $355

I-129F: NONE

Consulate: $131

AOS: $1010

($1496)

CR-1

I-130: $355

NVC I-864: $70

NVC Visa fee: $400 ($355+$45)

I see many posts from K-3 holders stating, "Wow this sucks, I an stuck at home because I don't have EAD, DL, etc, or I am having hard time getting added to bank accounts because of NO SSN." K-3 has a 90 day or longer period of limbo while waiting for EAD or Green-card.

We don't have the photos the INS requires as proof of a relationship - while we were in Afghanistan we didn't have a lot of time to ask people to take pictures - so I'm going over to the United Kingdom to marry him and hopefully get him over on a marriage visa.

Thank you so much for the advice on the CR-1. He'd hate to be sitting at home while I was the sole breadwinner. :thumbs:

K-1 visa is faster than CR-1 or K-3. You can visit him in UK, take lots of pictures and gather as much evidence then file for K-1 visa instead of CR-1? That's only an opinion!
