Michael Barone is right. The Dems have been trying to get the Fairness Doctrine reinstated to shut down conservative talk radio. Doesn't matter to them that the libs have just about every other communication venue under their influence, and that liberal talk radio sux huge so few listen to it. They just wanna shut the opposition up, and they will have a better chance with a socialist regime in control of each branch of government.

Well... talk radio in general is pretty shitty. That people listen to the likes Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage isn't indicative of the quality of the output.

Although... connecting the dots between the popularity of such mediums and personalities - and the apparent suspicion / hatred of academic types and higher educational establishments that comes exclusively out of the Right (and indeed from those radio shows), I'd say its pretty obvious why that is.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I do find it strange that pretty much every Republican politician graduated college and this fact is apparently overlooked when it comes to throwing around accusations of "elitism", and why so much time is wasted on fostering suspicion and hatred of academia.

Certainly there's nothing particularly high-brow in the most popular talk radio shows - and the only purpose they seem to serve is pander to people's prejudices. The woman that McCain took the microphone away from the other day is more or less exactly the sort of person who calls into those shows to praise the host for "telling it like it is".

If there is "high-brow" conservative talk radio - it certainly isn't exemplified in the most popular (and oft-referenced) shows.
