Actually, the easiest way to get the case number is off of your cashed check. If you used a personal check and your fiance's bank allows, you can simply get your WAC # off the back. There are many stamps but you will recognize this as it's just under the sig line and is WAC (for CSC) followed by 10 numbers. Here is a breakdown of what the numbers represent (only because I know when you're waiting it's good to get all the details you can ;) ) ....

Example - WAC 08 143 5 1234

WAC - California Service Center (formerly Western Adjudication Center)

08 - The fiscal year of USCIS, from October 1 to September 30. (Cases filed from 10/01/2006 to 09/30/2007 will have xx = 07)

143 - The working day of the fiscal year when your case is received. 10/01 = 001

5 or 0 - Either 5 (in database) or 0 (paper files) ... K1's are put into database

1234 - A serial number assigned to your case based on the number of cases received, starting from 0001

But we paid the lawyer who paid the USCIS... So no check for us...

Sorry, you will have to wait for your liason to call you back with it I guess. Your fiance can try calling uscis but that doesn't guarantee they'll give it to you.

I'm sure it's on its way.

Thanks! I really hope you're right ;)

How do you figure that? You use the VSC

Yes I did. But I've read, here on VJ, of other people filing at CSC that waited up to, and over, two weeks for a noa1.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I know as well as everyone here how much each step can mean. We had to wait years just to be able to file the I129f, so we wanted that NOA1 real quick. I actually screamed when I saw my bank account dropped, got my EAC (VSC), and we knew we were finally on our way! It took 120 days for our NOA2 and then we got stuck in AP at the NVC. It's not easy. The waiting sux but, believe me, it will come and when it does you will only be better because of it. :) We are to be married on Saturday and all that heartache is now just a distant memory...allbeit one we will never forget or take for granted.

Good Luck!

Thank you sweetheart. I appreciate the kind words. I'm just a stubborn girl in love with a beautiful kiwi man. :)

Life is often unfair. We've got to cling to all the good we can and when something is that good, it's more than worth the fight. There is a very bright light at the end of this dark tunnel. Just remember that along the way and you'll be fine. :)

So I have some questions about that...

My fiance and I hired a lawyer for the K1 and they sent our application on Oct 2nd. It was received by CVC on the 3rd. But since, we didn't get the NOA1 in the mail yet. Apparently my fiance (the US citizen) and the lawyer should receive a hard copy in the mail. Of course the woman who is taking care of us in the lawyer's office is on vacation for a week now :( so we won't have news for a week maybe.

I want to check online our application online but we don't have our case number yet.

So do you think it is ok to register with USCIS online if we're filing through a lawyer?

If yes, can I register without the case number? I mean will they find us in their database with our name?

Thanks!

We have a lawyer, too. The will get the NOA1 before you do, and they should update you immediately. Once they receive the NOA1, it will contain a case number that was assigned to your case. Go to the USCIS website and click on the link that says "Check Status On-line". It will direct you to a page to log=on if you are an existing user, or to register and create a new profile. Create a new profile and ask for "e-mail updates". They will automatically send you an update through your e-mail when there is a change or update to your status. Be patient though.... we got ours on August 18th and we still have heard nothing. All we can do is wait until we hear something. It's all in God's hands now. Just be patient, be strong, and hang in there. You gotta have faith. You're not alone... there are thousands of people just like us out there waiting. We're lucky it's just been a few months. some of these poor VJ couples have been waiting for years. Keep them in your prayers. We ALL need it! Good luck with everything! :)

Hey Laure.f! :)

I'm a new member just like you, but I can help you with your question. :) I was asking the same questions as you a few months ago. We have a lawyer, too. Listen, they will get the NOA1 before you do, but once they receive it they should update you immediately. (Our lawyer did.) Anyway, once they receive the NOA1, it will contain a case number that was assigned to your case. Go to the USCIS website and click on the link that says "Case Status On-line". It will direct you to a page where you can check the status of your file. Existing users can log-on and new users (like yourself) can register and create a new profile. It will ask you to type in your case number so make sure you have it handy. ;) When you are creating your new profile, make sure to check the box to sign up for free "e-mail updates". USCIS will automatically send you an update through your e-mail when there is a change or update made to your status. All I can tell you is to BE PATIENT... we got our NOA1 on August 18th and still haven't heard a thing. At this point, all we can do is WAIT until we hear something. It's all in God's hands now. Just be patient, be strong, and hang in there. We will all get through this eventually. We just gotta have faith. :) I know exactly how you feel and I assure you, you're NOT alone. There are THOUSANDS of people just like us out there WAITING. You & I are lucky it's just been a few months for both of us. Some of these poor VJ couples have been waiting for years to be together. :( Please keep them in your prayers. We ALL need it! Well, I hope I was able to help. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to I'm here. May God bless you and your fiance with a life filled with happiness & love. :) Good luck with everything! :)
