Hay girl honestly stay until you get let go.... really i am a manager and it is far harder to get you outta there and when it happens you can collect unemployment for @ 9 month. i can help you with all of that but it depends on your state for reporting.

Also they have to pay for you on unemployement... and later when you are looking for a job when doing reference checks they are not allowed to say anything negative. deffimation of charactor.

i am all over on this..... here for you if you need it look at the long run then decide.

Good luck

Sometimes I think getting a little house way out in the country, and I stay home and watch soap operas all day, and cook and I would be happy.

If we ALL pitched in we could get one of those rockin cabins in Montana that I just saw on the travel channel! They have a chef come into the cabin to cook for you and beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuutiful mountains to look out on while you're sitting on the porch getting a neck massage sippin a latte. It could be the MENA retreat!!!:dance::dance: We'll have a primal scream room, a full out spa, maids, chefs, various meditation and prayer rooms with kickazz views of the mountains, etc.

Unemployment will not be paid if the employer can prove they had a valid reason for letting the employee go.

As far as saying anything negative, true. But there is a way around it. You ask the person if they would hire them again. If the answer is no it speaks volumes without one negative word said.

Hey PB :)

If you accrue time (PTO/vacation) you would be eligible for what you accrued and have not used. They would need to pay you out. DO NOT QUIT....let them let you go (if thats what will happen). You would be eligible for unemployment. As Bridget said you are eligible for COBRA (to continue your healthcare) however, its very expensive.

First, if you can, stick it out at this job. If they do put this on your record, they can't keep holding it against you forever. It has to be for a "set" amount of time. So raises and promotions in the future would be possible.

It seems to me that they are looking to reduce headcount as many companies are doing. So they are on a witchhunt to find employees abusing the policies. Kind of sick in my opinion...not a game I'd play. We simply go by performance and years of service. I think its kinder/safer....not that letting staff go is ever kind :( I'm going through my own hell at work these days....praying I do not have to let anyone go.

Let me know how it goes and if all else fails...PM me...I can try to help out!! Wish I had seen this post sooner...we could role play your meeting! LOL

Good luck habibty....hang in there! (F)

Depends on the state...some states suspend for a few weeks if you're fired for violating policies however many employers do not contest unemployement and simply allow the employee to apply.

Not sure about your state, but generally most health insurance companies will have an "individual plan" that you can purchase on a graduated scale depending on age and health status. May be cheaper than COBRA, which can get pretty spendy. The ID plans also allow for a lower monthly premium, but your deductible would be higher. The higher your monthly premium, generally the lower your deductible.

Not having insurance these days scares me too. Hopefully you can at least work that part out if you have to!

Well, I was fired.

In the past 4 months I have made 84 calls to my husband's number which is apparently long distance even though it's a miami area code (I did not realize it was long-distance). This was deamed "extreemly excessive" - it was about once a day I worked. I have also made 46 "other" long distance calls - about half of which was for recruiting and following up with applicants from the culinary school in NY. I brought that up, and it was something they hadn't concidered

My own fault really, I didn't draw the line with my husband on when he asked me to make calls for him when he couldn't get his point across in English - I guess I was too much of a crutch for him. I told him once I was probably putting my job in danger, but he never really took it seriously.

I have insurance until the end of the month (really need to see that eye doctor now) and then I have the cobra option. Hopefully I will be returning to school full-time in the spring (am doing part-time now) and can get students insurance. I will also be paid out my vacation time.

I will be working on my husband's business, returning to school, and concentrating on my health. I don't plan to return to a regular job until either I finish school or the business fails. So maby 1-2 years

So.... how do I collect unemployment? :innocent:

Polar, I faced this last year in 2007. They redesigned my position and they let me go. They said that I had to resign...I told them no way, and that they would have to fire me, because without that I couldn't collect unemployment insurance. You can COBRA out on your health insurance - everyone is entitled to that. You will have to pay the premiums that your company pays...could be alot, but still the option is there. Since you're in Florida, you will only be able to receive $550 every two weeks from unemployment, but it is a check.

Good luck - you'll get through this.

I have done COBRA a few times.....always near $1,000 per month. It sucks so bad.

I hate to say it, but I think they have a valid reason with that much proof against you. I probably make/get that many calls; but I take them on my cell. Never on the work phone.

I'm sorry. I really do hope it all works out for you.

But wow...not even a warning???

Anyway, it sounds like this worked out for the better since you seem to have a plan as you're in school! Can you buy in to health insurance at school even as a part time student? (Sorry, I can't remember how that works).....

I agree with Jomo's Girl...I use my cell phone at work

Now if they monitored my facebook/IM usage.........

Yeah, cell phones don't work in that office - there is only 1 provider that does. Everyone hates it, but most of the chefs and cooks can use their cell phones in the kitchen or loading docks. Basically if I was at work this was the only way for my hubby to get ahold of me.

As I said, it was definantly my fault, but I'm kinda laying quite a bit of blame on my hubby who is absolutely giddy about all of this. I did ask him once if he was intentionally sabatoging my job after he asked me to quite - he says of course not. But he didn't really care if I got fired or not either. He wants me to stay in school and look after my health - that and set up an office and work with him in my spare time

I was over streatched - and yes I blame him. He has good intentions, but I liked my job. I am not sure if this will be better at not, bc as it was he was already denying me any down time. Any available time was spend helping him and doing what was needed for his business - all well and good, but now he is just happy that I will have even MORE time to spend with him on the business  I want my hobbies back and TV time and a break from the constant stress :crying:

Oh well, looks like I just might have a chance at that now  Sorry for the rant.
