Good place to stay in Odessa

A quick note about accomodation alternatives in Odessa. Vika and I stayed at Odessa Executive Suites Look Here. These are apartments, but the rental office also functions like a hotel front desk in some ways. It is an American owned company, and the owner is on the premises daily. Most of the staff speaks English, and the office staff is very fluent. Transport to and from the airport is free, and there is a Vonage line to America in the office that any one can use to call the States free of charge. Prices range from $55 to around $100 per day - a good value compared to the hotels in the area (especially in tourist season). The building where we stayed was ten feet from the pedestrian part of Dorobasovkaya street. There is an internet connection in every room.

All in all, this is the best short stay accomodation model I have found in Eastern Europe. Guests seemed to be a fair mix of business people, holiday goers, and point-and-click or introduction agency clients. Although our tv blew out, and it took two days to replace, otherwise all the amenities and fixtures worked well - and all the time. I would recommend OES to any traveler who is even passing through Odessa.

Thanks for the heads up on Odessa. We are hoping to visit there next spring. My brother in law lives a short distance away in a very small town. A lot will of course depend on costs and the economy. Unfortunately, my business schedule does not allow me to travel much before the rates go up for the vacation season.

It looks like your having a great time. Great photos of you and Vika and family.

Brad, I am still cussing at you for being in Ukraine. JK. I will be there in three short weeks for interview. I was in Louisville last week. They missed you. I would like to one day visit Odessa, but I think Crimea will be before that. All depends on what Iuliia wants to do. In less than a month, she will be here. Besides the accomadations, and who you were with, how is Odessa? Review?

I like Odessa in small increments because of the conveniences available. It is tourist friendly, but I do start to feel like a bankomat with feet after a few days. Prices are definitely higher than in the interior, and the beach and seaside generally are not really like what you see in a resort area elsewhere. We visited some clubs/restaurants, listened to jazz guitar, snarfed big breakfasts at Mic's (the Irish pub with the Scottish highlander and bagpipes in its adds), and walked the Potemkin steps to the sea. Definitely worth a few days just to experience it.
