student visa to GC application in a year??!!

I looked through USCIS website for the answer to my question, but I didn't find it (no surprise).. So maybe someone here can answer me.

This kid that I work with is here in the US on a student visa (or at least that's what he says). He's been here for a little over a year (he finished high school here and now he's in college). His family is here too, classified as "refugees". I don't know what exactly he means by that. He says he already applied for Green Card and had his biometrics taken.

I don't see how he can possibly adjust his status so fast.

Any ideas?

Btw, I'm not looking for advice on adjusting status. I just want to know how it's even possible he's adjusting so fast.

Maybe he's full of it.

Refugees are a different category. I don't know how fast an approved petition goes through though.

I don't know a lot about it either but it appears that refugees are 'fast-tracked' through the immigration process. I've met people who came from Kosovo to the US as refugees, back when the war was still going on. They were already naturalized US citizens by the time I met them.

Of course, not all nationalities can avail of this.

Ok, maybe I didn't make it clear enough. As far as I know, he's on STUDENT visa, not refugee. His family is refugee though. Unless he's lying (caught him on that before) and he's a refugee too.

He holds two passports: Turkish and Iranian. He says he's using the Turkish passport here in US because it's easier.

So my question was can he adjust so fast from student, not refugee.

Who knows, it is possible to claim refugee status and be successful. The answer to your question is that it's not outside the realm of possibility that he can gat permanent residency quickly through a refugee petition.

I made myself very clear. Not my fault reading comprehension is not your forte. As for minding my own business... Who the hell are you to tell me to mind my business? You don't know me. You don't know him. You don't know what kind of relations we have or why I'm asking the questions. Check my timeline,

I went through the whole process in 6 months, from F-1 student to GC holder. I don't see why all the fuss.

P.S. Relax, this kind of defensive and aggressive attitude won't bring anything positive to this forum

agreed, adjusting from student to green card is pretty much on the same timeline as adjusting from a fiance visa to a green card, assuming all the requirements are met.
