to the nurses under immigrant visa did you have difficulty finding a nursing jobs in US particularly in hospitals?

As long as you passed the state board and certification like NCLEX, you will be fine.

Try to search Baylor Medical Center online, they are always looking for a nurse. They even pay for your examination and such if they are recruiting you from the Philippines.

What kind of nurse are you? (RN, LPN) There is more to the process of just writing the NCLEX-rn (assuming ur a RN) One has to get their degree verified. With regards to jobs, all depends where you live. Some cities have more demand than others. Check out http://allnurses.com/ lots of great info there, especially under the REGION tab. I'm a last year RN student, and there appears to many jobs available in the DC area

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

In the Philippines, it is a 4 yrs course, then we have to take board exam to be a Registered Nurse. Therefore if we passed the NCLEX certification, we are a Registered Nurse.

n order for us to apply for a job in the US, we have to pass the NCLEX and TOEFL. Usually there are a lot of Recruiters from different hospitals in the USA, recruiting nurses in the Philippines.

I know my home province of Saskatchewan send down recruiters to the Philippines each year. they don't have LPN's in the phillipines or nurses aids? Teh OP didnt state what type of "nurse" she was. And not all areas of the USA are short of RN's

The Philippines DO have RN and LPNs. And their CNAs are called Care Taker(its a 6 month course); unlike the CNA course in the states which is about 4 weeks long.

Anyhow, if you are an RN..you will have NO problem finding employment in the States. Hospital, nursing home, home health care, doc's office(which does not pay that good), clinincs. True there are some areas of the states where nurses are not in great demand b/c they have a surplus in those areas...but most areas are in short, SHROT supply of nurses.

I have been a nurse for over 10 years, so I do know first hand. Nurses are being offered many incentive to work at faciliittes. Sign on bonus(which i have seen up to $10,000, increased PTO rates, flex schedules..etc ect ect.)

If you are concerned about finding work...don't you will. Where are you going to live when you get here?

I'm a newly RN here in the phil. and when I get there in u.s, I'm still considered a fresh grad right? I am now working on my nclex. I know that allnurses.com forum, and uva read that many foreign and even USC fresh grad nurses are having difficulty looking for a job coz some were looking for experienced ones.

As long as you pass the state board, you shouldn't find it difficult to look for a job. Nurses BTW have different ranks or levels in the US. According to my wife who's a nurse, hospitals prefer fresh grads from the Philippines because they don't have "bad habits." Nursing practices in the US are quite different from the Philippines and they are hard to "undo."

i would not concern myself with "habits" or not..a four year degress is a BSN. most places salivate over BSNs. check our this website..BLS.gov.

it gives stats for health care professionals. find the links for nurses and see what it says.

Again, there will be no problem finding work as a nurse...

What part of the states are you going too.?

The good thing about nursing is that it's a recession free profession. It pays well too--above the average American salary.

I'm going to California. And according to my wife, the experienced nurses are having a relatively hard time adjusting to the practices. But if you have a BSN degree, you have the advantage. A lot of US educated nurses in the US only have a junior college degree.

We;;. of course..more education equals greater oppurtunity. But an associates of nursing and a BSN are basically the same thing. Save for managment oppurtunities. And when it comes to nursing and managment...I stay clear of that!! In fact, nursing manangment is an oxymoron, if you ask me.

California...i would think has plenty of jobs. I cannot say for certain, b/c i have never practiced there. But for sure, the wages are higher. Sorry, i cannot speal on any details of California. But in Ohio, where I currently live and practice, thre are MANY nursing jobs to be had.

I would not worry a great deal about finding work or about an employeer's preference in regards to "bad habits' or not. Start out by taking whatever can be had, then from the inside find out what else there is and what better jobs there are.
