I have been looking around for this topic but could not find more than one. I am ready to apply to apply for Naturalization but the form N-400 will expire on 10/31/2008 and I will apply in late November? Would they update the form asap or should I still use the same form for up to month after expiry date. I see they are usuallty slow about putting updates like this kind on their website (USCIS that is)

Here is my Citizenship Timeline:

November 24, 2008 > Application Filed at TSC via United States Postal Service (day 0)

November 26, 2008 > Application delivered to TSC. Confirm by Postal Service (day 2)

Reread the instructions in the USCIS form website, clearly states which date forms are acceptable:

"Edition Date :

10/15/07, 07/30/07, 11/01/06, 05/31/01 can be used. No other editions accepted."

But download the latest form when your time is due to be safe.

See they have not changed this question yet.

"How many total days did you spend outside of the United States during the past five years?"

Both confusing not only to the applicants, but to the IO's as well.

Found this amusing:

"The public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated at 6 hour and 8 minutes per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, completing, and submitting the form."

Maybe the second time around, but certainly not the first time and also assumes you have the required evidence sitting in front of you, some of it may takes weeks in advance to gather it up. Also may take a couple of months to save up for the fee.

Can fill it out for practice, but always check for the latest updates before sending in any form.

I think edition date is different from expiring date, each edition has an expiring date so the current one they have is from the latest edition they have. Let me knwo if I am wrong.

Thansk and God bless!

THE OMB date is NOT the forms expiration date, the OMB date is the due date for USCIS to complete a survey mandated by Office Of Management and Budget to satisfy the "Paperwork Reduction Act" it is an internal date.

Compare the date at the bottom of the form to the editions indicated as acceptable by USCIS.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

In other word, if the form is on the website, then it is good.

Yes. it does.

EVen USCIS accpeted a couple of previous versions, too.

Expiry date is NOT really expiring date.

It indicates that USCIS may need to review the form for any change necessary.

But the change is minor, then they accepts those one, which may not affect the overall process with changes.

For an example, for latest update for most of forms was because of reformatting and/or better arrangement for computer scanning.

I would say, "Some cosmetic changes."
