Just thought I would share with anyone else who craves 'proper' bacon like you can get back in England that I've just finished eating the BEST bacon and fried egg sarnie I've had in MONTHS !!

We stopped off at the British Grocery Store the other day and bought a pack of their Irish bacon. It costs about $6 for a pack and this time we only got 5 rashers (we got 6 last time) but its absolutely the best bacon I can find around here and worth every penny if you ask me.

I fried it up this morning, slapped it between 2 fried eggs and then a couple of pieces of thick sliced white bread and went to heaven for the 3 minutes it took me to destroy it !! It could have only been made better had the bread been thick sliced bread fresh from the oven in Sainsburys. I washed it down with some PG Tips served in my England mug (also courtesy of the British grocery Store).

The weather may not be very British (90 degrees at 9am) but for a few minutes there I could have been in my mums kitchen back in London.

I don't need those kind of indulgencies very often but until I can get on a plane bound for London thats as close to England as I can get. I can thouroghly reccommend this kind of threapy for anyone wanting a taste of home, wherever home may be !!

Mark :)

Some the best bacon on the market here in America is called "slab" smoked bacon. The bacon comes in a 10 to 12 lbs slab and you can cut the bacon to the thickness you need. Slab bacon is 100% better tasting than pre package bacon. You can ask you local meat manager if they sell the whole slab bacon, best place to fnd slab bacon are in small stores.

Mmm, REAL bacon. I'm seriously considering gettnig some from my British Food store, too. They even have Hovis there.

*drools*

I know what you mean about not needing it very often. But it's nice to indulge. Except I'd go for Tetley over PG Tips, sorry. :P

I wasn't stuffing it in but it certainly didn't last very long !!

No HP but I'm not actually a fan of HP (Never have been !!). I'd normally put Heinz Tomato ketchup on a bacon sarnie but I didn't want anything to mess with the taste of the BACON !!

I was talking with Debs the other night about her love of A1 Steak sauce. I've had that a couple of times and think that that is pretty similar in taste to HP brown sauce. I wonder if I'm imagining that or not ?? Either way, it's the last thing I want to cover a really great steak in !!

A1 has a sweeter taste.

And because you posted I had to make Wes a canadian bacon sandwich - 2 actually - one which he had on white bread and one wheat - both buttered and both slathered in HP.

See what you caused...........*grins*

Eng bacon is like a pork chop *yuck* hahahahhaah

:thumbs: And it ususally tastes pretty damn dry too... maybe that's why it needs to be slathered in HP??? But we've found a pub that serves English bacon and sausage in their full English breakfast....so if we go for an early morning footie...hubster is happy. He can have my bacon if I can have his black pudding... But he's not really picky anyway...he likes American bacon too. :D

But yeah, you can buy it at Brit food stores. I bought it a few times, once having it shipped for an exhorbitant price, and once picking it up at a Brit shop not too far from us.
