Merci WonTanNara.

Everything everyone has said has be so valuable!

De rien ma souer, bonne chance! Too bad you will be leaving before I get there but I cannot wait to hear about your experience!

Je parle français un peu. Mon fiancé dit que je le parlerai couramment avant que je parte. (translation courtesy Babel Fish :))

I could "miss" my flight....LOL!

Your fiance might be a little crabby if you miss your flight tee hee...

I am really hoping to be in Guinea during that time, Insh-Allah!

Actually I was talking about missing my flight home - think my husband would actually like that :)

HA! Well yeah that makes a heck of a lot more sense! Stay a few weeks longer! In 3 weeks you will just be getting settled and used to the heat. You will be amazed at how quickly the time passes. You will be a the same latitude as Honduras in Central America. Senegal ca c'est tres sho et troi semen c'est tres rapid!

Senegal ca it is very sho and troi semen (three weeks?) it is very rapid

WAIT I think I figured it out - with the help of my son who doesn't speak a bit for French.

Le Sénégal il fait très chaud et trois semaines est très rapidement!

Yeah my French spelling sometimes leaves much to be desired especially if I am in a hurry. I spell fenetically HAhahah! But, the online translators do in fact suck. I'm no expert, but I can also tell you there are two very big differences between African French and Canadian/Parisian French: Africans use very simple grammar and syntax and their speech is much more open mouthed. I like it better. Be careful with the online translators, they can twist your words into something you don't want to say. Doh! ;)

I haven't logged on in a long while as I am sooo busy with school, but I did want to add that it generally takes 14 days for you to have an appointment for a civil marriage ceremony. You definitely need malaria medication...malaria is in Dakar and it is definitely in Tamba.

Wishing you the best!

AL

Just trying to muster the energy (and the money) to do this again.

Flash back to my first trip. Be sure you take your malaria meds after you have eaten. I once made the horrible mistake of taking my pill after I ordered at a restaurant, assuming the food would be on its way soon. It took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive, but only 10 for me to end up in the restroom vomiting.

Thanks! I had read awhile back about the 15 day waiting period so that's why my trip was scheduled for 23 days. BUT my SO was able to give them copies of my birth certificate and divorce decree and got the banns back on the 10th of this month. I have an appointment on either the 31st or the 3rd with the town counsel (or somethign like that) and then our wedding will be on the 3rd or the 4th. Started taking my malaria medication on Saturday, still need to get a mosquito net though. They love me here in the US so I'm sure the Senegalese mosquitoes will love me too.

Hmmm I've taken it before meals, after meals, inbetween and not had a problem knock on wood!

I apologize, I'm late in posting.... the first time I traveled to Africa, I took $1,000, this was above and beyond my airline tickets and the hotel/food expenses. This was suppose to be "fluff". I spent two weeks and arrived back in the states with $20 and I spent very, very little on items to bring back. If I were going for 3 weeks, I personally would probably go with no less than $2000 and a credit card. You just never know what might happen. JMO

Thanks for all the help. I'm think I might have $500, still balancing check book and have some people who owe me. I spent too much on "stuff" to take but I know I'll be ok.
