Washington Mutual you say..... and it's free to wire money???? wow, that's nice to hear. :)

Since you wired it free to the UK, I would imagine that it's also free to wire to Denmark, since Denmark is next to the UK :)

Thanks for the info

Anyway-to the OP-sorry- no experience with sending money overseas-although some have said that Paypal works for them.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

thanks for all ur imput.

ive sent money western union before but as some of u stated its expensive. so we thought we would try the bank this time since it was only $20.00 to send. it seams it was the worst $20.00 we have spent so far.

we were going to give his dad an atm card when my husband travels there because the mail service in syria sucks. am afraid of dhl and all the others also.

as u said us-et2004 we did usa a band that has international ties and still have this problem. oh well maybe just our luck.

thanks again for all ur comments. i guess at this point we will just wait and see if the syrian bank can locate the funds. then recall them if they cant be found and wait til he travels there in a few months and he can hand deliver the money himself. then leave the atm card.

Donaal the best way by far is iKOBO. Its a new service alot of people dont know about it yet. Ive been using it since january.

iKobo

The person you are sending money to recieves an iKard. It is an ATM card that works with any ATM machine that has the VISA plus logo on it. You are the sender and the person with the card is called the recipient. You both recieve an email instantly after any transaction. The first email you recieve will contain the recipients PIN number.

YOU select any amount that you want to send out your bank account, using YOUR debit or credit card. The recipient instantly recieves only that amount on their end. They have no access to your actual bank account.

The recipients iKard takes 8-15 business days to arrive to the recipient when sending international.

When the recipient has the card, he or she can take it to any ATM machine that has the Visa Plus logo on it and with draw the money that you have sent.

The best thing about it is that the card is refillable. So if you send someone 60 USD, and they withdraw the entire amount on their side, the account does not close. As soon as you add more money for them, the money shows up on their side instantly.

It costs 6 USD to send someone money.

Ive been using it for a while now, its much cheaper and more convenient than Western Union because fora long time i was using western union and paying a 15 usd service charge everytime. Also i always had to coordinate with my fiance the times that her and mine western union hours of operation were. It was a hassle compared to iKobo.

The best thing to do is not let Shonnie see this thread :P

oh, but I jest....well have you ever tried Western Union? I would say try that, it's a money wire but has nothing to do with a bank transfer. Once you have a conf #, the recipient just has to find a WU and give them the #, id & boom! there's the moola! Seems a lot more straightfoward than this! Yet I don't know if Western Union is in Syria, so perhaps you could check out the website.

Sorry that's all I came up with here!

Why say that? send Money Gramm its is cheaper than western union. most banks and exchanges

have money gramm service. all the recepient need is ID and REF number.

Shonnie, I was joking about that old thread about sending money, hon.

And now I want Dave's bankcard!

huzzah!

Interesting that WAMU doesn't charge now. I asked them a couple years ago and it was something like $50. When we've needed to do a wire transfer, I've done it through my credit union here at work, $20.

I have a question: how do it it in reverse? That is, how do you wire money from a foreign country to the US?

This is Wamu's new free checking account, if you have not upgraded your account, all you have to do is ask. You get free international and domestic wires. It's great!

Some countries don't allow you to wire money to the US.
