It hasn't affected us at all. My husband and I were talking about this too, I was also worried that I wasn't worried with all of this talk about "turmoil" going on. But our lives haven't changed at all. We still have our jobs, he just got a substantial raise and things seem to be the way they've always been.

Funny how we worry when we aren't worried...:blink::lol:

To be honest, I don't even really know what's going on. I just keep hearing about things going down the tubes, but I don't get it.

wait for thanksgivings-christmas season, technology is becoming cheaper to manufacture.. there'll be good prices.. like the blu ray players.. by xmas they'll be below 150 bucks, isntead of 300 bucks like a couple ofmonths ago..

shhhhhhhhhh, don't say that in front of hubster...he wants a WIIPlaystation3XBox

the xbox already lowered its price and probly will go even lower in xmas.. the ps3.. good luck with that.. the wii.. will still be expensive and sold in a combo for 500 bucks, not worth it yet..

what else.. gps will be dirt cheap too.. digital cameras of course... the still kinda expensive product is digital frames...

It hasn't affected us at all, thankfully.

My husband's job is pretty recession-proof......

if anything, I think it's going to be alot easier (price wise) for us to buy a house this Spring as we planned.

I took all my money out of the bank and buried it in a pickle jar. :jest:

Seriously: The biggest effect is in how I am thinking about investments and property. I can no longer think in terms of being confident about the stability of the dollar of the viability of property investments.

Fortunately, my job is very likely secure. But, will the salary I'm being paid be worth enough to keep our heads above water in the future? I don't know...

I'm a millionaire, I don't get to use my private jet that much anymore ;)

Seriously, not really, we just graduated last year and started working, our 401K is a joke, don't own a house yet, our cars are all paid off, still saving a little bit and still being a couple of cheap A$$es like when we're in college and the economy was tip-top, this allows us to economize even more.

What I don't know is if I should start saving in Euros :P

Unless we have to move and sell the house I'm not too worried either right now.

Moving would only be happening if we lose our jobs (we work for the same company).

But we are more careful about spending. Other than the house we have no payments to make, but we eat out less and drive a little less, and I don't order expensive German specialties as often any more *sigh*.

Maybe with eating out less and less goodies I'll drop weight???

and of course, dont get fooled by the salesman at best buy or hhgregg.. the price extra paid for '1080i' is not worth it..,

so analyze what u want ur tv for? cable and satellite just give 1080i, xbox and ps3 and blu ray is 1080p... if you aitn gonna play video games or watch blue ray... just get a 720p, which is basically the same as a 1080i, except 100-200 dollars cheaper....

and if u wanna hookup surround sounds or want good image.. save some money for good hdmi cables, yes they're worth it, or if u know someone who works in a best buy or radioshack, tell them to give u those cables with their employee discount.. since they are high profit items, they get 30% or more

I reallocated all my assets in my TIAA-CREF account out of stock and real estate into the guaranteed 'Traditional' account yesterday - 5.5% interest is better than negative numbers...

Otherwise not too much effect personally although when I read the news I am scared - the college where I work is doing well, enrollment is up and retention is good this year, we are hiring another F/T person in the library, the president just sent an email about his meeting with the board of trustees and he said approval was given to do more improvements/construction - hope it keeps up for a while.

I need to have elective surgery and will probably tell the doctor at my next appointment on Wednesday that if he thinks my condition will just get worse then just go ahead with it - specifically I need cataract surgery on my ONE GOOD EYE - I am very very scared though the chances of anything serious going wrong are like 1:3,000 or less... The doc is unable to prescribe good contacts/glasses for me, I cannot recognize faces unless someone is right in front of me, walking at night is very difficult(Thank God I don't drive), I have to sit maybe 4" away from the monitor to read. I can't take the risk of not having insurance this time next year and my sight only getting worse... :(

Hubster and I were talking about this recently because I was worried that I wasn't feeling worried and that maybe I was overlooking something... but no, we don't own a home here (we do in the UK, but that's not an issue), we don't own a car, we don't have children and we don't tend to look at our investment stuff on a regular basis so aren't freaking out about the drop in 401K. Actually, I get the statements and toss them in a drawer, sometimes unopened. Neither of us are worried about our jobs at the moment.

We aren't spending money over the top, but we never really did, but are still saving for a trip to China and just recently bought an HD TV. *shrug* I just don't feel it yet.

A Hippie with an HD TV?? Edit edit edit!!

:hehe:

:o #######, indeed :o
