Few have a clue what these people have went through. Speaking English is NOT a requirement for a child of an American serviceman. This is just another example of our countries failure to take responsibility for our actions in Viet Nam.

There's a movie called "The Beautiful Country" that is about a bui doi man who makes it to America to look for his father:

Thanks for the post Steven.

I'll check it out. :) Thank you.

Just another example of why our immigration / citizenship laws are archaic and need to be modernized to the 21st Century. We have children born to illegal aliens and birth tourists shopping for citizenship that are considered to be citizens automatically because they are born over US dirt (but have no cultural ties to our country). Almost all modernized 1st world, industrialized democratic welfare states discontinued this insane policy for obvious reasons long ago. The USA is still stuck back in the 19th and 20th centuries on that issue. And here we have foreign born fatherless children claiming to be born to American parent, but the American parent is conveniently missing, cannot be located, and does not claim the child. We're supposed to automatically give these people US citizenship because they "don't look Vietnamese or Korean"? Talk about racial profiling! OMG...they "look" American. Is there a DNA test for American paternity? No? Well I guess that leaves them meeting citizenship requirements just like any other immigrant. And meeting English proficiency and all the other cumbersome things required to be naturalized. But we should just lower our standards because they "look" American? Right? To do otherwise is just mean...and we don't want to be mean, so we'll let everyone that "looks" American automatically be US citizens.

Maybe if they want to be British, French, or German citizens they can claim their long lost daddy was a journalist covering the war? Maybe that's why they "look" British, French, or German. Do you think those governments would buy into that logic? I don't. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
