So please if anyone knows the answer, just let me know...it has been a month since my husband's interview, and he was told he would receive his visa in a month. In two days it will have been a month, and the last two times I have emailed the cairo embassy, they reply "It is pending the officer's final review. We can then process to conclusion." I have no idea how long that takes. A few weeks, a few months??? ohhh man...i'm trying not to be paniky...also, how does that work? Does the officer do a detailed review of the case one last time before the visa goes out? I don't get it. thanks guys!!

Your guess sounds correct. The officer probably dots I's and crosses T's as part of the final internal processing.

My fiancee's visa would have languished in her consulate to this day, had I not phoned the USC line and insisted on speaking with an American regarding the delay in the decision. After a wait, I ended up speaking with the Section Chief himself! He was neither cordial nor gruff, and emphasized that speaking with me was a courtesy that they normally don't extend to USC callers (although we all know that we pay his salary!). He explained the understaffing and backlog (these really do exist) and said to send an e-mail to the generic consular address with his name in the Subject line, and remind him that we were still waiting. Within 48 hours, the decision (to issue) was made. In your circumstance, I recommend this approach (at least e-mailing), because the flunkies in the consulates are either powerless to influence the decision-makers or are conditioned to "stall" people. If you wait more than a week or so to receive the visa in hand, call the flunkies and tell them to shake it.

You might find the Section Chief's name by consulting this link (I don't know if it still works, but it had information that was purportedly accurate as of 5 August 2008):

I thought that you asked this already on Sept 30th in a visa poll or something???

I will put the same response here:

You can follow the timelines and get an idea. That's what we did.

We were told in February 11th after the interview that we would get the visa in 2 weeks but we got the visa June 30th.

We got the exact same message that you are getting for 4 months.

There were numerous security checks with CONDOR, MANTIS, NCIC, etc....

We were told officer final review for 4 months........everybody

is different!

GOOD LUCK!
